Role Title: Senior Engineer – Verification & Validation Delivery (Electrical)

We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.

The Development Engineering organisation is accountable for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. It is also responsible for providing the data and evidence that underpin the design and delivery of the power station through verification, testing, demonstration and research programmes. This spans not only nuclear engineering but the wider engineering and operational disciplines required to deliver a major infrastructure project.

As a senior engineer you will be experienced in electrical power systems or a combination of electrical power systems and, control & instrumentation.

About the Role

Senior Verification and Validation (V&V) Engineers play a key role in Rolls-Royce SMR’s Systems Engineering approach by leading the process of verifying that the power station design meets its requirements. This forms a crucial part of our strategy to offer delivery certainty through the use of modern engineering tools and techniques — including analysis and rig testing — to substantiate the design before construction begins.

You will take ownership of complex, safety-critical or business-critical areas of the power station aligned to your expertise. Your initial responsibility will be to develop comprehensive verification strategies that define the activities and evidence required to demonstrate compliance. Throughout the verification lifecycle, you will work closely with design leads and technical specialists to execute these strategies and confirm compliance. Alongside technical leadership, you will mentor other V&V Engineers, support capability development and complete rigorous technical reviews to ensure quality and consistency.

There are multiple roles to fill within the team & we are particularly interested in speaking with people from one or more the following backgrounds:

  • Electrical power systems and high voltage networks– further experience in C&I is desirable.
  • Equipment Qualification (EQ) on a previous nuclear project, or qualification of components in a safety critical environment
  • Nuclear or other highly regulated industrial experience is desirable.

We’ll Need You To:

  • Develop verification and validation strategies within your area of responsibility
  • Act as an intelligent customer in the V&V of the plant and across the RR SMR business
  • Support the verification and validation of the safety case
  • Produce reports for regulatory bodies and present/discuss findings with regulators
  • Define objectives and requirements for verification activities (e.g. rig tests, analyses) and agree these with delivery teams
  • Review and collect evidence of verification activities across internal teams and the supply chain
  • Collate evidence and use it to assess compliance against requirements
  • Manage technical interfaces across functions to ensure coherent and efficient technical solutions
  • Coach and review the work of others to elevate technical quality across the team
  • Perform detailed technical checks and provide constructive feedback to peers
  • Ensure compliance with relevant nuclear and safety‑critical standards (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61513, IEC 61226)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
