Senior Engineering Lead – Too Good To Go, London
[At Too Good To Go, we have an ambitious mission: to inspire and empower everyone to fight food waste together.](## About the Role)
More than 1/3 of all food produced in the world is wasted. This has a massive impact on our planet: 10% of greenhouse gas emissions come from food waste and loss.
Through our marketplace app, we connect businesses that have unsold, surplus food with consumers who can buy it at ⅓ of retail value. As a certified B Corporation, we combine our platform with educational tools, new business solutions, and legislative advocacy to reduce food waste globally.

We’re establishing our first engineering and product hub in London, and we’re hiring our first:
- Senior Engineering Lead → to partner directly with London-based Staff Product Manager as the founding leadership team.

The Role
We seek a Senior Engineering Lead to found our London engineering hub, building a high-performing team from scratch. This visionary role spans:
- People leadership: Recruiting, growing, and guiding a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Technical architecture: Collaborating with Operations stakeholders to define the technical roadmap and deliver scalable solutions.
- Product ownership: Prioritising workloads, ensuring quality integrations, and managing third-party vendors.

Key responsibilities:
Shaping and delivering the technical backbone of our business-critical workflows.

Your leadership will span:
- Backend: Spring Boot (Java 25) + Kubernetes in AWS
- Frontend: Two React.js (TypeScript) projects
- Mobile: iOS (Swift) & Android (Kotlin) apps

Team & Leadership
- Build, grow, and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team remotely/collaboratively.
- Own the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with Operations’ business priorities.
- Mentor and foster technical excellence and personal development.
Technical & Product Execution
- Work closely with non-technical stakeholders to bridge their needs with engineering goals.
- Design, build, and maintain high-quality integrations & systems.
- Direct third-party vendor relationships for scalable growth.
- Drive quality, timeline adherence, and product-minded decision-making.
[Ideal Candidate](## The Ideal Candidate)
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years as a senior engineer or solution architect, with proven track record in integrating complex systems.
- Hands-on management of engineering teams, understanding of remote collaboration.
- Experience in integration technologies (preferably Java/Spring Boot).
- Ability to enable non-technical stakeholders to prioritise and visualise roadmaps within a budget.
- Proven aptitude in third-party project management.
- Proactive ownership mindset, thriving in fast-paced startups.
