Senior Engineering Manager

Senior Engineering Manager – UK Sites | Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials

This Senior Engineering Manager role (based in Runcorn, Cheshire, UK) will see you lead cross-functional teams to ensure safe, reliable, and profitable operations across the UK Sites (Rocksavage, Cheshire Technical Centre & The Heath).


Main Purpose

The Senior Engineering Manager provides leadership, oversight, guidance, and direction to a team across Maintenance, Facilities, Planning, Capital Expense Project, Reliability, and Integrity Departments—ensuring the UK sites operate safely, reliably, and profitably while meeting Orbia’s short- and long-term objectives.


Main Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I), covering:
    • Maintenance
    • Civil engineering
    • Capital Expense Project/Planning
    • DCS (Distributed Control Systems)
    • Contractor management
  • Serve as a Key Partner to the Site Production Manager, ensuring ** Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)** is maintained and optimised across UK plants, assets, and infrastructure.
  • Drive safe, efficient preventive/corrective repairs to maximise OEE while fostering strong internal relationships for site-wide operational success.

Team & Asset Management

  • Manage the growth and development of engineering teams to maximise their contributions to the business.
  • Provide strategic oversight for the entire asset lifecycle:
    • Planning
    • Acquisition
    • Operation
    • Maintenance
    • Decommissioning/disposal
  • Maintain and improve asset performance while optimising maintenance labour and material costs to meet productivity goals.

Safety, Compliance & Strategic Direction

  • Implement and oversee SHEQ&S (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, and Sustainability) strategies to ensure compliance with:
    • Company procedures
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Best practice standards
  • Provide high-quality project/program management across CAPEX projects, collaborating with the Orbia Business Engineering Director (BED) to deliver the Rocksavage site capital program efficiently and align with Orbia’s PMO systems.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary professional teams, leveraging Orbia’s Future Fit Leadership Model for personal and team development.
  • Maintain a robust talent pipeline to support long-term growth for units and Orbia’s chemical operations.

Qualifications & Experience

Academic Background

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Core Knowledge & Experience

  • 20+ years in the chemical industry.
  • 15+ years in maintenance management within the chemical sector.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to foster collaborative team environments.
  • Expertise in:
    • Mechanical maintenance
    • Reliability & integrity management
    • EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) systems
  • Deep understanding of project management principles and real-world applications.
  • Proficiency in:
    • SAP systems
    • Maintenance management software
    • CAPEX planning tools
