Engineering Manager – Modeling & Simulation

Location: Wimborne, Dorset Division: Aerospace Group Mission Systems Division (MSD)

About the Role

The Mission Systems Division (MSD) is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their ** Modeling & Simulation** team. Reporting to the MSD Engineering Director, this position will oversee global engineering activities for model-based engineering (MBE) and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) across new product development, legacy products, and test equipment.

The role focuses on:

  • Organisational capability development
  • Global aerospace alignment
  • Improved programme execution through disciplined engineering processes
  • Risk management and portfolio/resource planning
  • Implementation of best-cost country (BCC) engineering and strategic technology refinement

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead ~50+ professionals in performance modelling, FEA, thermal, CFD, and MBD to support NPD, iR&D, and legacy product teams.
  • Develop MBE/MBSE tools/processes, mentoring engineers on programme execution.
  • Drive Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies and an "analysis-first" mindset.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure cost-effective, high-quality designs aligned with global competitors.
  • Uphold product standards and documentation consistency to avoid duplication and enhance supply strategy.
  • Establish digital engineering capabilities (e.g., MBSE, MBD) in line with Aerospace Group strategy.

Coordinated Growth

  • Oversee the expansion of the Pune (India) engineering centre.
  • Align with Group-level/centres of excellence for seamless product development.
  • Identify leading engineering metrics and drive continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Operational Excellence to reduce manufacturing costs and enhance quality.

External & Professional Engagement

  • Cultivate university partnerships to foster innovation and talent pipelines.
  • Represent Eaton in global aerospace engineering communities.
  • Maintain strong customer relations.

Compliance & Strategy

  • Address proprietary IP and product liability concerns with legal teams.
  • Develop global engineering strategies, ensuring tactical execution.

Other Duties

May include ad-hoc assignments requiring "Analysis First Approach" and mitigation strategies.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering (combination of formal/wide experience also considered).
  • 10 years’ experience in aerospace/high-tech NPD & sustaining engineering.
    • 15+ years in aerospace, with expertise in FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, or performance modelling.
  • 8+ years of programme/team management (direct HR accounts or large matrices without P&L responsibility).
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MSc, PhD) or DFSS Green Belt Certification (desirable).

Skill & Competency Standards

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Proven ability to drive change and develop technology plans.
    • Experience in cost competitiveness & business strategy.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • MBSE tool proficiency (e.g., SysML, Capella).
    • Specialisation in AAR, actuation, or environmental systems advantageous.
  • Coordination & Collaboration:
    • Ministry of Defence supplier programmes assigned through regular contract competitions.
    • Experience with global matrix organisations in an engineering context.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Ability to partner with libraries and other environment stakeholders.
    • Relationship-building within operating functions, customers, and legal.

Up to 40% travel may be required.
