About the Role
As a Senior Environment Artist at Airship, you will set the benchmark for artistic excellence, professional attitude, and capability within the field. Your role demands:
- Independence and self-direction in your work, with the ability to undertake complex tasks with minimal oversight
- High-level expertise to deliver best-in-class assets consistently
- Mentorship support for junior and mid-level artists
- Capacity to act as interim project lead when needed
We need a candidate with deep level art experience, proficient in:
- Terrain generation and large-scale landscapes
- High-fidelity interiors
- Performance-driven level kits and workflows
- Cinematography and lighting to give life to environments

The ideal candidate should be capable of translating environment concept art into in-engine execution, aiming for progression to a Principal role. Your portfolio and personality will be pivotal in your application.
Requirements
- A demonstrable portfolio, showcasing a range of high-quality environment and level artwork across diverse project styles
- Ability to create large-scale landscapes in Unreal Engine and Unity from scratch
- Strong familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 terrain and foliage tooling
- Experience with terrain generation tooling such as Gaea or World Creator
- Solid grasp of cinematography fundamentals, including:
- Composition
- Framing
- Colour theory
- Lighting
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools and workflows
- Procedure generation (PCG) experience or understanding is a plus
Key Responsibilities
Creative
- Adhere to studio art standards, best practices, and quality benchmarks
- Follow direction from internal art leadership for company projects and initiatives
- Receive direction from clients for external projects or initiatives
- Actualise environment spaces from concept art (interiors/externals) with minimal supervision
- Set dress scenes using provided props/assets in varied styles and eras (internal/external)
- Prioritise strong visual storytelling in environments

Technical
- Respect and work within project performance and optimisation constraints
- Ensure environments support gameplay via:
- Clear visual signposting
- Intuitive traversability
- Rigorous adherence to level design and navigation requirements
- If necessary, break down client briefs into actionable task lists
- Collaborate with perforce or similar source control workflows
- Apply your expertise to improve workflows where feasible
Mentorship and Development
- Conduct craft-focused 1:1 sessions to support artist growth
- Work with your line manager to identify personal development areas in current or advancing skills
