About Our Environmental Team
As a UK-leading marine environmental consultancy, we possess 30+ years’ experience supporting coastal and marine clients. Our specialised team excels in consenting, permitting, and licensing for complex infrastructure projects—both in the UK and internationally.
Pioneers in marine environmental assessment, we carried out the first Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) for a major port project in 1994, right after their introduction. Today, we lead marine biodiversity initiatives, including Biodiversity Net Gain partnerships with Natural England.
With 150+ staff in our UK Environmental team (and broader resources throughout), we’re renowned for delivering value-added, proactive solutions that:

Job Role: Senior Environmental Consultant
We’re looking for a self-driven, analytical consultant with proven expertise in marine consenting, particularly for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs). Your work will shape the future of marine infrastructure while upholding environmental integrity and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
You will:

Lead and deliver EIAs and HRAs for a variety of marine projects, including:
- Ports and harbours
- Dredging operations
- Coastal protection schemes

Collaborate with engineers and marine specialists to embed robust environmental considerations into every phase of project design and delivery.

Advise stakeholders and regulators transparently on:
- Marine consenting processes
- Regulatory requirements
- Compliance pathways

Solve complex marine environmental challenges, applying innovative, nature-positive solutions to advance project objectives.

Repersent Haskoning as a trusted advisor, engaging in:
- Client consultations
- Regulatory meetings
- Stakeholder engagement forums

Support project governance, including:
- Budget oversight
- Milestone scheduling
- Risk mitigation
- Reporting and transparency
Requirements & Qualifications
This role is ideal for candidates who possess:
- 10+ years’ experience in delivering EIAs and marine consenting (preferably for ports/harbours or coastal projects).
- A deep understanding of navigating UK and international regulatory processes, including:
- Habitats Regulations (Habitats Directive 1995)
- EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive
- National frameworks (e.g., UK Planning Act, Marine Policy Statement).
- Proven stakeholder management skills across:
- Regulators (natural bodies, port authorities)
- Developers and investors
- Community groups and environmental advocates
- Strong project management acumen with track record in:
- On-time delivery
- Budget adherence
- Resources optimisation (teams + consultants)
- Crisis-solving mindset with ability to pivot strategies under pressure.
- Technical writing proficiency for drafting reports, consultancies, and policy submissions.
- Leadership potential with capacity to coach junior colleagues.

Competitive salary: £62,000–£85,000 (dependent on experience, typically £65,000–£80,000 range for pioneers with degree+ background).
