About The Role
Are you an experienced environmental data analyst who enjoys working with complex environmental datasets and applying innovative analytical techniques to solve real-world environmental challenges? Are you looking for a role where you can take ownership of projects while continuing to develop your technical expertise alongside one of the UK's leading environmental data science teams?
We're looking for a Senior Environmental Data Analyst to join APEM's growing Water Data Science team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on nationally significant environmental projects, helping clients across the water, energy and environmental sectors make evidence-based decisions through innovative data analysis and predictive modelling.
Whilst our team has a long-established reputation in freshwater science and hydro-ecological modelling, we're keen to hear from experienced environmental data professionals from a range of backgrounds. Whether your experience has been gained working with freshwater ecology, marine, terrestrial, air quality, geographical or other environmental datasets, we're looking for someone who enjoys working with complex environmental data and has strong programming skills in R.
Working alongside Principal Consultants and technical specialists, you'll manage your own portfolio of projects, delivering high-quality analytical outputs while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across APEM. You'll have regular interaction with clients, contribute to proposals and tenders, and play an important role in developing innovative analytical approaches.
As your career progresses, you'll also have opportunities to mentor junior colleagues and develop your leadership skills.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
