Role Overview
The Senior Environmental Engineer is a dynamic role supporting project and engineering teams across BAE Systems and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Collaborating with cross-organisational stakeholders, you’ll deliver a broad spectrum of environmental engineering activities for complex programmes, including undertaking ship visits and occasional travel.
This position offers technical expertise growth, diverse engineering experience, and the chance to shape Environment-compliant programme delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Work within the BAE Systems Safety and Environmental Hub, supporting QEC, T45, T23, Hunt, and OPV naval platforms.
- Ensure RN platform compliance with UK and international legislation, plus MoD procedures.
- Partner with engineering and In-Service Support teams to:
- Develop Environmental Impact Assessments
- Set Environmental Objectives and Targets
- Update Environmental Features Matrices
- Conduct and monitor Environmental assessments (both internally and externally).
- Represent Class Safety Leads as required at Design Reviews and Environmental Assessment Workshops.
- Contribute to Maritime and Land Product Environmental governance, including Policy, Framework, and Process.
- Stay current with environmental legislation and advise stakeholders on compliance requirements.
- Address Environmental engineering queries arising from capability insertion and maintenance.
- Make autonomous Safety & Environmental management decisions.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A Higher National Certificate (HNC) in an engineering discipline or demonstrable experience in an engineering environment.
- Accredited Environmental qualifications (e.g.,IEMA Certifications/Environmental Technician).
- Experience working in accordance with Environmental Management Systems (e.g., ISO 14001, MoD Environmental Procedures).
- Proficiency in Environmental Management tools, techniques, and standards.
- A background in engineering, naval, industrial, maritime, or Oil & Gas—or equivalent competence from workplace experience (e.g., Pharmaceuticals).
