Role Overview
As Senior Environmental Engineer, you’ll work closely with project and engineering teams across BAE Systems and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). This varied and impactful role involves:
- Supporting complex engineering programmes
- Conducting ship visits
- Undertaking occasional travel
- Deepening technical expertise
- Ensuring Environment compliant programme delivery
You’ll provide environmental engineering support to QEC, T45, T23, Hunt, and OPV platforms, ensuring UK and international environmental legislation compliance.
Core Responsibilities
- Support the Safety and Environmental Hub organisation in delivering on RN Platform compliance standards.
- Work with teams to provide Environmental input in setting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), objectives, and targets.
- Complete and oversee internal and external environmental assessments and management tasks.
- Represent engineering teams in Design Reviews and Environmental Assessments Workshops as required.
- Participate in developing and maintaining Maritime and Land Product Environmental governance documentation (e.g., policies, frameworks, and processes).
- Stay updated with evolving environmental legislation, advising colleagues on compliance.
- Respond to environmental engineering queries linked to operational activities.
- Make Safety & Environmental management decisions within scope.

Essential Requirements
- A Higher National Certificate (HNC) in engineering, or demonstrable engineering sector experience.
- Relevant environmental qualifications (recognised).
- Experience working with approved Environmental Management Systems.
- Proficiency in Environmental Management tools, techniques, and standards.
- Background in engineering, naval, industrial, maritime, Oil & Gas, or Pharmaceuticals, or equivalent work-based experience.

You’ll join a Product Safety & Environmental Hub, made up of safety and environmental engineers covering:
- Aircraft Carriers
- T45 & T23 Destroyers & Frigates
- Hunt Class Mine Countermeasure Vessels
- B1 Patrol Vessels
