Job Description Summary

GE Vernova is growing – and we need people who can grow with it. As the energy transition accelerates, so does our project pipeline. We're looking for a Senior Project Manager to take full ownership of high-value AC (alternating current) systems and FACTS (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems) projects across the UK and Ireland – from design and procurement through to construction, installation, testing, and commissioning. You'll be working on some of the most consequential infrastructure projects in the UK energy sector ranging from standard delivery packages to large and complex programmes valued above $150 million. This is a role where your decisions carry real weight, your relationships with customers matter, and the work you deliver directly supports Britain's energy future.

If you've spent your career getting complex infrastructure projects over the line – and you're ready for a role where the growth opportunities are as big as the projects – this could be the right move.

What You'll Do:

  • You will take end-to-end accountability for EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) project delivery – leading cross-functional teams and managing the full lifecycle from contract handover through to customer acceptance.
  • Own delivery – lead project teams spanning Engineering, Cost Control, Finance, EHS (Environment, Health & Safety), Quality, and Construction & Contracts Management to deliver to specification, on budget, and on schedule.
  • Drive financial performance – manage project cost and budget with rigour; measure, optimise, and report on key operational and financial indicators in line with governance cycles; ensure resources are best utilised at every stage.
  • Lead risk management – implement a risk management plan across all stakeholders, track risk activities through the full project lifecycle, and ensure clear communication of risk exposure at all levels.
  • Manage scope and schedule – oversee scope across all participating entities, resolve interface and overlap issues, and ensure all deliverables and proactive claim management activities are tracked and achieved.
  • Champion safety – actively communicate and implement EHS plans, integrate safety into project strategy, and represent the company in related regulatory matters where required.
  • Support commercial activity and tender input – validate delivery models, commitments, and risk profiles at bid stage; support settlements and claims in line with contract terms; and drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis.
  • Travel to customer sites and project locations across the UK and Ireland is part of this role, typically 2–3 times per month, with occasional overnight stays depending on site location.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You'll Bring:

  • We're looking for a seasoned project delivery professional with a track record of leading large-scale, high-value EPC or turnkey projects – someone who combines strong technical grounding with the commercial sharpness and stakeholder confidence that comes from genuine senior-level experience.
  • Essential requirements:
    • A background in Engineering – a degree in a relevant discipline is valued, though we are most interested in your total experience and what you've delivered. Equivalent experience in AC systems, substations, or a comparable technical environment is equally welcome.
    • Significant experience in a senior project management role, with direct accountability for complex, high-value EPC or turnkey projects.
    • Proven track record in construction, installation, and commissioning phases of major infrastructure projects.
    • A formal project management qualification – PMP, APM, or similar.
    • Strong understanding of CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations 2015, or equivalent construction safety regulations in another country (e.g., Ireland), with the ability to demonstrate working in similarly complex and regulated environments.
    • Strong financial literacy – able to interpret project financials, manage budgets, and report cost performance with confidence.
  • Nice to have qualifications:
    • Experience managing projects within the UK transmission sector or working directly with major UK energy clients.
    • Ability to manage a concurrent portfolio of projects across different scales and phases.
    • Familiarity with FACTS or AC systems in a grid infrastructure context.
