Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Epitaxy Equipment Engineer to provide engineering support to the Epitaxy Shift Equipment Engineers and Technicians at our Caswell site. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving equipment performance through continuous improvement initiatives, production support, fault diagnosis and repair, preventative maintenance, and equipment upgrades. The role also involves working with hazardous process gas systems and the use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily maintenance activities with Manufacturing and Process Engineering teams.
- Support equipment improvements, upgrades, and new equipment installations.
- Provide technical input during equipment procurement, commissioning, qualification, and release to production.
- Maintain and support MOVPE reactors and associated equipment to minimise production downtime.
- Carry out phosphorus trap and gas cylinder changes using Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) (full training provided). Due to SCBA requirements, the successful candidate must be clean shaven.
- Operate a forklift truck when required (training provided).
- Manage chemicals, process gases, spare parts inventory, chemical replenishment, and waste disposal.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Shift Equipment Technicians, ensuring adherence to procedures, safety standards, and engineering best practice.
- Support logistics projects including equipment relocations, cleanroom reorganisation, and shipping activities.
- Assist with planned site shutdown activities, including occasional weekend overtime where required.
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers, spare parts suppliers, specialist service providers, and supervise external contractors and field service engineers.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to maximise equipment availability, reliability, and uptime.
- Ensure full compliance with all site health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Support the site's emergency response function as required.

Qualifications
Essential
- HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a recognised time-served engineering apprenticeship.
- Minimum of five years' experience within a semiconductor wafer fabrication or epitaxy equipment engineering environment.
Desirable
- Electrical qualifications such as BS7671 18th Edition.
- Additional engineering or semiconductor industry certifications.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong electrical engineering experience, including both low and high voltage systems.
- Minimum five years' semiconductor equipment engineering experience, including MOVPE and/or MOCVD technologies.
- Experience working within a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment.
- Excellent knowledge of:
- High vacuum systems and leak detection
- Vacuum pumps and high-vacuum principles
- Pneumatic systems
- PLC-controlled equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and mechanical schematics.
- Experience working safely with hazardous process gases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable
- Experience with Aixtron MOVPE reactors or other CVD equipment.
- Experience of semiconductor process gas systems, including Mass Flow Controllers (MFCs).
- Experience with dry abatement systems.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
Other Requirements
- Day Shift: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00.
- Ability to work within a semiconductor cleanroom environment while wearing full cleanroom PPE.
- Willingness to be available for technical advice or emergency call-out when required.
- Ability to wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), which requires the successful candidate to be clean shaven.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
