Senior Equine Yard Technician

Equine Centre Assistant Manager – Permanent Role

Salary: £27,371 - £28,074 per annum (based on an FTE of £25,660 - £26,320 per annum) Hours: A minimum of 40 hours per week (5 days/week, including one weekend day)


About the Role

Support educational and commercial activities within the equine yard, overseeing practical day-to-day operations and reporting to the Yard Manager.

  • Horse welfare & care:

    • Prioritise a positive quality of life for the horse population, embedding Hartpury horse welfare guidelines in daily yard activities.
    • Ensure outstanding care for all horses, upholding welfare and performance standards.
  • Student livery support:

    • Oversee and enhance student livery experiences, including timely communication and query resolution.
    • Coordinate full livery care (term time) alongside the Yard Manager.
    • Collaborate closely with the Equine Livery Administrator to facilitate smooth livery operations.
  • Educational oversight (term time):

    • Maintain high standards for academic-facing yard activities, including loan horses, student duties, and livery experiences.
    • Support student groups in practical learning while ensuring safety and industry standards.

  • Customer service & events (out of term):

    • Provide a high standard of service during National & International Equestrian Shows.
  • Administrative duties:

    • Maintain all records (livery operations, student management, Barn Mentor supervision).
    • Ensure effective communication, record-keeping, and team coordination.

About You

You must demonstrate:

  • Practical equestrian experience with a proven track record in the industry.
  • A relevant British Horse Society qualification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to inspire and influence others.
  • Experience in managing teams with clear communication.
  • Exceptional administrative abilities alongside alattle to standard of horse care.
  • Open to embracing evolved, evidence-based equestrian practices to support horse welfare.
