About The Role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Estimator to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) business.

This UK-wide role focuses on the preparation of estimates for high-voltage substation projects across our client portfolio, supporting the successful delivery of major transmission and distribution infrastructure for National Grid, SSE and other key clients.

Working as part of our Work Winning team, you'll play a key role in developing robust and competitive estimates for complex power projects, collaborating with engineering, procurement, commercial and operational teams to support bids from initial opportunity through to contract award.

This position offers excellent flexibility, with the option to be based from any of our offices, including Derby, Leeds or Middlesbrough, operating on a hybrid basis with approximately two days per week in the office.

What you'll be doing

Strategic Estimating & Bid Support

  • Develop pricing strategies in collaboration with the Estimating Manager.
  • Attend and contribute to bid meetings including strategy sessions, kick-offs, site visits, risk workshops, and pricing reviews.
  • Stay informed on emerging products, technologies, and market trends.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with bid governance and Gate procedures.
  • Prepare cost summaries, cashflows, and other financial documentation.

Technical & Commercial Alignment

  • Understand and interpret technical and commercial project requirements.
  • Prepare accurate, competitive estimates aligned with detailed programmes.
  • Liaise with Pre-Construction Manager and internal teams (Design, Procurement, Operations, Commercial).
  • Review Bills of Materials and ensure alignment with project scope and schedule.
  • Evaluate and benchmark supplier and subcontractor quotations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
