Senior Estimator

Senior Estimator – Preconstruction Team

*Location: North West, UK | Contract: Permanent

About the Role

Are you an ** monomersed estimator** with industry expertise and a passion for delivering high-quality construction projects? Join Caddick Construction, a family-owned business that values quality, integrity, and innovation, as we expand our Preconstruction team.

We are seeking a Senior Estimator to play a pivotal role in our Preconstruction team, delivering accurate cost estimates and strategic bidding for a diverse portfolio of projects worth £5m to £150m. Your expertise will drive the success of Industrial, Commercial, Manufacturing, Health, Education, and Residential projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bid Preparation & Risk Assessment

    • Review and assess tender documentation, identifying risks and opportunities to inform bid strategies.
    • Complete detailed take-offs and compile accurate cost estimates for submissions.
  • Cost & Supply Chain Management

    • Obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, conducting rigorous cost comparisons.
    • Ensure supply chain efficiency through collaborative interactions with procurement teams.
  • Cross-Team Coordination

    • Work closely with Construction and Commercial teams to align on project delivery and methodology.
    • Prepare tender handover packs post-bid to support the project team in preconstruction.

  • Software Proficiency
    • Master estimating tools such as:
      • Conquest (cost estimation software)
      • Bluebeam/CostX (documents & take-offs)
      • Excel (cost reporting, financial analysis)

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record as a Senior Estimator (preferably within the construction or civil engineering sector).
  • Strong cost planning experience, including familiarity with two-stage tenders.
  • Deep understanding of construction processes, project economics, and commercial decision-making.
  • Proficient in:
    • Microsoft Excel (advanced functions for modelling and analysis)
    • Construction estimating software (e.g., Conquest, Bluebeam, CostX)
    • Current construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT, FIDIC*)
  • Experience with industry-specific procurement methods and commercial frameworks.

Personal Attributes

  • Highly numerical and detail-oriented with strong analytical reasoning.
  • Confident communicator, demonstrating the ability to collaborate with teams, clients, and suppliers.
  • Shown strong leadership and organisational skills, able to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Resilient and adaptable; comfortable working under pressured situations (e.g., tight bid timelines*).
  • Preference for candidates with a **strong North West regional footprint or travelling flexibility—though location may be agreed on an individual basis.
