Morgan Sindall is seeking a motivated and ambitious Senior Estimator to join our team on the Scottish Power CNM3 Project, supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of exciting schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator looking to further develop their expertise while taking on increased responsibility within a highly regarded pre‑construction team.
The role will support pre‑construction and bid teams in the preparation of competitive tenders to secure new work, with a particular focus on design and build projects across both new build and refurbishment. Collaborating closely with planners, design managers, and pre‑construction managers, you will help develop innovative, value‑led solutions that strengthen our bids and support successful project delivery.
Role Responsibilities
- Support the bid team in delivering high‑quality submissions, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates and cost plans in line with Morgan Sindall standards.
- Produce robust net estimates supported by market intelligence, benchmarks, and risk analysis.
- Obtain competitive supply chain quotations, maintaining awareness of current market conditions.
- Identify, assess, and report risks, opportunities, and scope changes throughout the tender process.
- Review tender documentation, extract requirements, and report key findings to the bid team.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing monitoring of tender strategies.
- Ensure all supplementary and supporting tender information is complete and accurate.
- Maintain full working knowledge of estimating software and ensure system updates are implemented effectively.
- Operate in compliance with Morgan Sindall estimating procedures, standards, and best practice.
- Apply and monitor risk registers throughout the bid lifecycle.
- Maintain awareness of current health and safety requirements and regulatory changes.
- Communicate bid strategies and solutions clearly to construction and delivery teams.
- Obtain and incorporate feedback from construction teams to strengthen bid outcomes.
- Influence and support colleagues and suppliers to drive innovation and optimal solutions.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and suppliers, establishing trust and collaborative dialogue.
- Support supplier engagement and innovation to enhance value and competitiveness.
- Participate in the adjudication process and attend post‑tender negotiations as required.
- Assist in preparing and compiling tender submission documents.
- Develop understanding of tender strategy, bid planning and business development processes.
- Proactively seek opportunities for learning, professional development, and industry innovation

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- Qualified to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Proven ability to undertake quantity take‑offs from drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in the use of Conquest estimating software.
- Strong capability in producing Excel‑based reports and cost data.
- Demonstrable experience in cost planning and budget development
- Sound understanding of construction technology and emerging innovative techniques.
- Solid knowledge of the construction industry, standards, and specifications
- Strong collaborator, able to contribute effectively across business units and disciplines.
- Good people management skills, with the ability to motivate others and drive exacting standards of compliance.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities without compromising quality.
- Confident working with senior management to support project and operational target setting
- Effective negotiator with strong influencing and diplomacy skills
- Able to present clear, well‑reasoned business cases to senior stakeholders.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
