Location: Balfour Beatty Maxim Business Park Eurocentral

Company: Balfour Beatty

Project: SCAPE Framework

Build your future with Balfour Beatty

Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Senior Civils Estimator to join our civil engineering work-winning team and support the successful delivery of projects through the SCAPE framework.

This is more than a traditional estimating position. It is a genuine career-development opportunity, created as part of our longer-term succession planning. You will be given the support, exposure and responsibility needed to continue developing your technical, commercial and leadership capabilities, with a clear opportunity to progress into a more senior role within the estimating and work-winning function.

We are looking for someone with approximately 8–10 years of project-focused civil engineering estimating experience who is ready to take the next significant step in their career.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

You will take ownership of the estimating and tendering process for a varied portfolio of civil engineering projects, working closely with operational, commercial, design and supply-chain teams.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Reviewing tender enquiries, scopes of work and commercial requirements.
  • Producing accurate estimates from first principles for earthworks, drainage, concrete, reinforcement and formwork.
  • Completing quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Developing bills of quantities, schedules of rates and material requirements.
  • Assessing construction methodologies, temporary works, plant, labour and site-resource requirements.
  • Preparing and issuing subcontract and supplier enquiries.
  • Interrogating supply-chain quotations, identifying exclusions, omissions and commercial risks.
  • Attending pre-tender meetings, site visits and client discussions.
  • Producing tender summaries, qualifications and supporting submission documents.
  • Supporting tender adjudications and agreeing the final tender price with senior leadership.
  • Assisting with post-tender reviews, contract handovers and project kick-off meetings.
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting the development of less-experienced estimators.

Who we're looking for

About You

You will bring strong estimating experience gained across project-focused civil engineering environments, ideally covering areas such as:

  • Roads and highways.
  • Bridge construction.
  • Public-realm improvements.
  • Structural concrete.
  • Coastal defence.
  • Infrastructure and civil engineering frameworks.

You Should Also Have

  • Approximately 8–10 years’ civil engineering estimating experience.
  • The ability to price work accurately from first principles.
  • Experience of the NEC suite of contracts.
  • Knowledge of highways methods of measurement and CESMM.
  • Experience pricing civil engineering projects of varying size and complexity.
  • A good understanding of temporary works and associated costs.
  • Confidence using estimating software, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • The ability to manage competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients, operational teams and supply-chain partners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
