# Estimator or Senior Estimator – Water & Infrastructure at JN Bentley
JN Bentley is a leading UK engineering and construction company, delivering critical infrastructure across water, environmental, and energy sectors through long-term, collaborative frameworks. As part of the Mott MacDonald Group, we operate across England, Wales, and Scotland, providing fully integrated design and build services. With an annual turnover exceeding £600m and strong growth, we offer long-term career opportunities within a stable and forward-thinking business.
About the Role
We are seeking an Estimator or Senior Estimator to join our high-performing Bidding and Estimating team, where you’ll play a pivotal role in securing and shaping major infrastructure projects. Based in either our Shifnal or Newport office, you’ll work at the front end of projects, collaborating with design, commercial, and operational teams to develop smart, competitive, and deliverable cost-effective solutions.
This role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of civil engineering schemes, from early-stage feasibility and smaller value projects to high-value, complex, multi-disciplinary schemes. You’ll influence project outcomes, add real value, and see your work directly translate into successful on-site delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing accurate, well-structured, and commercially sound first-principle cost estimates for civil engineering and infrastructure projects
- Collaborating with design, commercial, and operational teams to create robust and competitive tenders
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and scopes to identify risk, opportunities, and value-engineering solutions
- Engaging with the supply chain to secure quotations and inform buildable, market-tested pricing
- Supporting bid submissions, reviews, and tender clarification meetings
- Applying consistent estimating methodology, standards, systems, and governance across all bids

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
