Job Title: Senior Estimator (Belfast)

Location: Belfast, Full-Time

Contract Type: Permanent

Job Description:

We are expanding our Infrastructure team and are seeking an ** опытный Senior Estimator** to support our clients in delivering ambitious and innovative projects. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing in-depth cost estimates, analysing project documentation, and assessing risks and opportunities.

Key duties include:

  • Collaborating with clients to align estimates with project goals.
  • Engaging with project teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely, comprehensive cost management.
  • Supporting budget adherence, proactive reporting, and continuous refinement processes.

As the key technical leader in estimates, you will also:

  • Train and mentor junior estimators to elevate overall team capability.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with engineers, project managers, and senior leadership teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proud, accurate cost estimates based on the maturity of design and information available.
  • Analyse drawings, project documents, and schematics to assess design challenges and cost factors.
  • Continuously evaluate estimate accuracy, identifying risks and opportunities that could impact budget compliance.
  • Present cost findings to senior management, contractors, and stakeholders – explaining recommendations via reports and presentations.
  • Obtain and verify up-to-date billing, unit pricing, and supporting contractor/supplier quotes for costing accuracy.
  • Finalise estimates in line with current market and project-specific conditions, incorporating historical benchmark review.
  • Align estimates with MetroLink project specifications and values.
  • Mentor and develop junior/intermediate estimators through training and ongoing guidance.
  • Support comprehensive estimate reporting, ensuring clarity and transparency of rationale.
  • Produce and validate material take-offs from project documentation.
  • Review contract terms for clear scope definition and allowance accounting.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by leadership within the role’s scope.

Experience & Qualifications

Required Experience (10+ years minimum)

✔ Senior estimator experience in cost management & estimation. ✔ 5+ years of estimation experience with civil, rail/transit infrastructure, airport, or commercial construction projects. ✔ Proficiency in contracting methods (inc. Design/Bid/Build, Design Build, Construction Management at Risk, Guaranteed Maximum Price). ✔ Expertise in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Quantrix, CostX, Candy, or equivalent). ✔ Demonstrated PMO function integration with costing frameworks. ✔ Relevant background in large-scale civil engineering (preferably in rail, water, or aviation; other relevant infrastructure experience considered).

Knowledge & Skills

✔ Strong communication (written + verbal) skills for commercial builds, stakeholders, and leadership. ✔ Proactive stakeholder collaboration in multidisciplinary teams. ✔ Problem-solving mentality with ability to identify solutions under time constraints. ✔ Strong IT skills (including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Win OS). ✔ Technical discipline in civil infrastructure: logistics, productivity analysis, value engineering. ✔ Negotiation & supplier contracting fluency to optimise pricing and delivery. ✔ Leadership to supervise junior/mid-level staff.

Formal Education

  • Minimum Level 8 degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or relevant commercial discipline. Preferred, but not mandatory.

Professional Accreditation

  • Membership of professional bodies (e.g., AACE International, Scost, PMI, APM, RICS, or equivalent) is preferable but not essential.
