Senior Executive Assessment Delivery

Two Fixed-Term Contracts Available

  • 12-month maternity cover (starting August 2026)
  • Fixed-term contract ending December 2027

This is a hybrid role, with the flexibility to work from home and the Oxford hub (weekly office attendance required). Colleagues can shape their working hours flexibly while adhering to core business requirements, supported by formalized flexible working agreements.

Purpose of the Role

The Senior Executive Assessment Delivery plays a critical role in ensuring the institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) delivers fair, consistent, and high-integrity assessments within stringent timeframes. You will collaborate with examiners and IFoA teams to oversee end-to-end assessment processes—from preparation and delivery to result analysis, reporting, and compliance—while ensuring accuracy throughout the IFoA database.


Principal Accountabilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Technical & Operational Support

    • Manage the internal database, exam platform, and marking systems, ensuring data accuracy and validation.
    • Support the Assessment Delivery Manager in authoring exam questions, adhering to timelines and quality standards, with clear stakeholder communication.
  • Equity & Inclusion

    • Handle complex accessibility arrangements under the Equality Act 2010, liaising with candidates and occupational therapists to facilitate a supportive, non-advantageous experience.
  • Examination Delivery

    • Coordinate assessments within deadlines, managing external providers (e.g., invigilators) and ensuring adherence to technical requirements.
  • Stakeholder & Candidate Support

    • Provide 2nd-line support during live exams, addressing complex queries relating to syllabus, marking schemes, regulations, and results.

  • Result Processing & Reporting

    • Collate and analyse examiners’ marking, resolve anomalies, and prepare statistics for the Board of Examiners and Mitigating Circumstances panels within deadlines.
    • Ensure learner results, transcripts, and sensitive information are released securely and accurately per agreed timelines.
  • Process Improvement & Risk Mitigation

    • Audit assessment systems, platforms, and procedures, proposing enhancements to mitigate errors and enhance efficiency.
    • Oversee system development, testing, and deployment to maintain operational readiness across exam platforms.

Essential Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Needed

  • Strong customer care skills, with an understanding of confidentiality and discretion (including sensitive/diplomatic handling of information).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapting to demands flexibly.
  • High accuracy, resilience under pressure, and the mental capacity to bulk process data efficiently.
  • Organisational skills to meet tight deadlines and manage high-volume workloads.
  • Clear and effective communication (both written and verbal) at all organisational levels.

(No prior education or professional actuarial background required.)


Decision-Making & Complexity

  • Collaborate with 1st-line support and invigilators to make real-time decisions during exams, optimising marking teams dynamically.
  • Analyse core assessment processes and propose systematic improvements based on data, GDPR compliance, and emerging needs.
  • Prioritise tasks independently, using critical judgement to resolve queries and escalate issues as required.
  • Translate complex data and queries into accessible insights for stakeholders at all levels, ensuring timely delivery of results and information.

Note: The IFoA’s assessment processes are high-profile, with accountability extending to bodies such as the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and employer communities.

Additional Role Dimensions

Scale & Scope

  • IFoA assessments involve >15,000 learners annually, with 26 biannual exams + 3 flexible assessments. Accuracy in scheduling and platform adjustments is paramount.
  • Work involves >400 external examiners and markers; close liaison is essential.
  • Data integrity sits across internal and external platforms, requiring collaboration with suppliers.

Travel & Flexibility

  • Weekly travel to Oxford hub (mandatory).
  • Approx. 2 visits per year to other locations (possible overnight stays).
  • Seasonal out-of-hours support during examination periods (~6 weeks biannually) to manage candidate and system needs.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in professional bodies or higher education environments.
  • A record of continuous professional development.
  • Involvement in volunteer-driven initiatives.
