Senior Exterior Lighting Engineer – Southampton, UK (or UK-wide)

About the Role

As the [Senior] Exterior Lighting Engineer, you will:

  • Expand your expertise in externally-focused lighting designs, working across diverse projects such as ports, highways, urban areas, and landscapes.
  • Contribute to exterior lighting aspects for our specialist teams, including marine projects, environmental and health, MEP designs, buildings, structures, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing lighting and electrical designs from concept to construction in a multi-discipline environment
  • Preparing technical reports, specifications, design input statements, and lighting environmental impact assessments
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers to foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence
  • Engaging with external stakeholders and building collaborative relationships

Requirements

To excel in this role, you will:

  • Have (or be working towards) IEng/CEng status, with relevant experience in external lighting design.
  • Hold associate or full membership of a recognised lighting organisation, such as the Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) or the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL).
  • Successfully complete an ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma, LET Lighting Diploma, or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
  • Be proficient in the use of:
    • Lighting Reality software.
    • Trimble Pro Design (preferred but not essential).
  • Have experience working independently and supervising others effectively.
  • Be familiar with National Highways and local authority lighting designs, along with Design & Build Contracts.
  • Be well versed in the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
