Role Title: Senior Façades Designer
Business Unit: Oak Facades
Location: Leicester
Role Overview
A Senior Façade Designer is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of building façade systems from concept through construction. This role combines architectural design intent with technical detailing, ensuring façades are aesthetically strong, buildable, cost-effective, and compliant with regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Produce façade concept designs that align with client, architectural, and project requirements.
- Lead façade design development across all project stages (concept → detailed design → construction).
- Develop and maintain accurate 3D façade models throughout the design process.
Technical & Documentation
- Produce detailed drawings, models, and façade system specifications (e.g., curtain walling, cladding).
- Prepare façade specifications, tender packages, and reports.
- Conduct site visits to monitor installation quality and resolve design issues.
- Review shop drawings and fabrication details.
- Undertake material selection and produce performance assessments and technical reports.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to integrate façade systems.
- Liaise with structural, MEP engineers, and fabricators for seamless integration.
- Engage with clients and developers to understand project requirements.
- Work alongside contractors and specialist façade subcontractors.
- Coordinate design information and maintain clear records of meetings, actions, and communications.

Specialised Tasks
- Compile tender documentation and fabrication packages to support procurement.
- Conduct site inspections and produce inspection reports, snagging records, and technical recommendations.
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance.
- Drive innovation in façade systems, materials, and sustainability strategies.
- Ensure compliance with building regulations, codes, and performance standards (thermal, structural, weatherproofing).
Project Delivery
- Present design solutions to stakeholders.
- Support multidisciplinary teams to deliver designs on programme, within budget, and to required quality standards.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Typically 5–10+ years of façade design experience.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating complex façade projects.
- In-depth knowledge of façade processes, especially:
- Curtain walling, rainscreen, and glazing systems.
- Understanding of international standards (e.g., CWCT, EN, ASTM).
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced CAD & BIM (AutoCAD, Revit experience).
- Technical detailing and fabrication knowledge.
- Strong coordination and project management skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Communication and client-facing skills.
- Knowledge of sustainable materials and practices.
