Main duties of the job

The Oral and Maxillofacial (OMF) team are looking to recruit a Senior Fellow to join our MDT team. This is a 1 year fixed term position starting as soon as possible. We are looking for a passionate and dynamic individual looking to expand their skills and knowledge in OMF surgery.

You'll work in a multidisciplinary team including close links with our neurosurgery, dermatology and clinical/medical oncology colleagues. There are six full time consultant maxillofacial surgeons plus 1 plastic surgeon who make up the head and neck surgical team. A team of resident doctors complete a three tier on call service with out of hours first on call provided by generic head and neck ENT/OMF resident doctor.

In addition, there is an active interest in skull base surgery. The post offers broad based training opportunities in all aspects of maxillofacial surgery, with particular emphasis on head and neck oncology. A large number of complex free flap surgery together with skin cancer and facial plastic surgery are carried out (2024 – 60 Free Flap cases performed).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
