The buzz, the energy, the sheer magic of travel… You can feel it in the air all around you. Here, you'll be part of an energetic team and a vibrant community. We can help you thrive in a career that's a world away from the everyday.

What is the role?

London Gatwick offers an exciting opportunity for a Senior Field Engineer to join our dynamic team at the world's most efficient single runway airport. Be a part of shaping our future, supporting the delivery of a substantial investment plan to develop and enhance our airport infrastructure and facilities.

Working within the Capital Projects Construction team at London Gatwick, you will be part of a team delivering significant infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. The programme portfolio currently includes multi-million-pound reconfigurations and extensions to both International Departure Lounges, as well as a suite of ambitious projects helping Gatwick to achieve its sustainability goals by 2030.

Your experience in a similar role on multi-million-pound projects, with a focus on health, safety, quality, and handover, will ensure you can successfully support projects across all phases, from planning and execution to completion and handover.

What will you do?

Reporting to the Programme Construction Manager, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of large, complex projects across London Gatwick. You will work closely with internal teams, airport stakeholders, and our contractors to ensure the successful completion of projects, with involvement in the delivery process from end to end.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Lead any assigned Construction Management resource assigned to you, support their development; maintain standards, manage, motivate, coach and mentor as required.
  • Coordinate and deliver regular site safety engagement on responsible projects, to ensure an emphasis on and compliance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards and promote a positive HSE culture. Continual monitoring of HSE onsite via routine inspections, challenging unsafe practices and promoting good safety practices.
  • Review contractor Construction, Design & Management (CDM) and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) submittals (including construction phase plans, risk assessments, method statements and work permits) and monitor compliance against accepted plans.
  • Assisting the Project Manager and Design Management team in providing responses to Requests for Information (RFI), Non Conformance Reports (NCR) and Field Change Documents as required, and ensuring that quality issues, including defects, are processed and closed out promptly.
  • Solving construction challenges by working with contractors to develop efficient solutions.
  • Support the continuous improvement of project delivery processes and procedures and implement process improvements as these are developed.
  • Inspecting site work in progress to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, GAL standards and statutory regulations during the construction and handover phase.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary colleagues within Civil, Architectural, MEP & Structural Engineering fields to ensure all works are installed to plan.
  • Facilitating contractor works by liaising with various stakeholders as required for access, works planning, equipment shutdowns and the processing of relevant permits following GAL processes.
  • Providing constructability advice & aligning project delivery with business requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
