Senior Finance Analyst

Senior Finance Analyst

About the Role

The Senior Finance Analyst plays a critical financial role within the trust, under the supervision of a Senior Business Support Analyst. This position is responsible for:

  • Generating and producing monthly budget statements and financial reports in line with departmental timetables and standards.
  • Investigating budget variances by interrogating trust financial systems and producing monthly performance narratives.
  • Providing timely resource management insights to relevant budget holders and designing robust financial management support across multiple departments.
  • Partnering with budget holders to assist Finance Business Partners and Senior Support Analysts with budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes.

The role demands strong communication skills, particularly in explaining complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders. The position also requires sustained analytical effort, including prioritising tasks to meet tight financial deadlines and delivering precise financial data and assessments.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Generate and submit monthly budget statements and financial reports within agreed deadlines.
  • Comply with Trust financial policies and departmental procedures.

Performance Management

  • Investigate budget variances and root causes through financial data analysis.
  • Summarise findings in monthly performance narratives for stakeholder review.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support

  • Collaborate with budget holders on forecasting and budget preparation.
  • Provide financial planning advice and guidance to support decision-making.

Strategic Financial Advisory

  • Offer financial expertise to drive decision-making processes across the Trust.
  • Assist in preparing business plans in collaboration with senior team members.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Present clear, concise financial insights to non-finance teams.
  • Support Finance Business Partners and Senior Support Analysts in financial engagements.

Requirements

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record as a Finance Analyst, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting preferred.
  • Strong analytical acumen with the ability to interpret financial data and communicate insights effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the capacity to educate non-finance staff.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools used in healthcare or public sector environments.

Personality & Work Ethic

  • Highly organised with strong prioritisation and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain concentration under pressure and deliver results within deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on delivering comprehensive financial advice.
