The opportunity you've been waiting for

This is a senior finance role with a five-year planning horizon, direct partnership with the CFO and the Finance Director of the parent group, and real influence over how a commercial energy business plans, forecasts and performs.

You'll manage an Edinburgh-based accounting team of seven, sit close to two senior finance leaders, and be trusted to move between five-year strategy and the detail of a single meter reading.

How you'll make your mark

Key deliverables

  • Partner directly with the CFO and the Finance Director of the parent group, providing the financial insight that shapes the business plan.
  • Lead monthly performance reporting for the business, turning variance analysis into clear commentary and recommendations leadership can act on.
  • Manage and develop an Edinburgh-based accounting team of seven, building their capability alongside your own.
  • Own the budgeting and forecasting process, aligning group timelines and standards with the realities of a trading and commercial business.
  • Take charge of cash management and industry liaison on collateral balances, including the financial impact of meter issues.
  • Identify risk and opportunity within financial forecasts, and build the models and scenario analysis that support decisions.
  • Maintain financial governance and compliance across a business that answers to both commercial and regulatory pressures.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A Bit More About The Business

This business is part of a flexible generation arm within a major international energy group, helping keep Britain's grid balanced through demand response and flexible power assets. It sits where trading, technology and regulation meet, and its finance function underpins commercial decisions made in real time. This role exists because that function needs more capacity to partner, challenge and plan for what comes next.

Denholm's take

Financial partnering roles inside trading businesses rarely come with this much room to think five years ahead. This one does, and it sits close to two of the most senior finance leaders in the business. If you'd like a confidential conversation about the detail, get in touch.
