Senior Finance Officer
Temporary to Permanent
3 Days on-site
Hourly Rate: £18 - £20
Permanent Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join a growing Housing Association and support the smooth running of the finance function. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will oversee day-to-day transactional finance activities including sales ledger, purchase ledger, banking, and rent accounting, whilst supervising Finance Assistants and ensuring key financial deadlines are met. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional looking to combine operational processing with team leadership in a values-driven organisation.
Senior Finance Officer General Responsibilities:
- Supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Rent Ledger activities across the organisation
- Lead on bank reconciliations, monthly cashbooks, and nominal ledger maintenance
- Oversee sales ledger and purchase ledger processing, including payment runs and query resolution
- Supervise rent collection activities and ensure accurate and timely reconciliations
- Support the maintenance of the fixed asset register and wider finance operations
- Provide day-to-day leadership, target setting, and support to Finance Assistants
- Assist with Board papers, financial controls, and compliance with financial regulations
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and support the continued development of the finance function

Senior Finance Officer Ideal Candidate:
- Qualified by experience or part-qualified accountant
- Previous experience working within a busy finance or accounting environment
- Strong bank reconciliation, cashbook, and ledger management experience
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a finance function
- Experience using accounting systems and finance software
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure
- Social Housing experience would be advantageous
