Senior Finance Workday Reporting Specialist
We have an exciting fixed-term (12-month) role for an experienced Senior Finance Workday Reporting Specialist to join Sovereign Network Group (SNG). Following the recent implementation of Workday for Finance and HR, this position will lead the design, creation, and maintenance of financial and management reporting solutions, ensuring Finance teams and leaders have access to accurate, timely insights.
Based in our Basingstoke offices, this role combines home and office working to promote a healthy work-life balance, with occasional travel as required.
The Role
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Senior Finance Workday Reporting Specialist will provide technical leadership in:
- Workday reporting design (including complex calculated fields)
- Setting reporting standards and governance
- Acting as the escalation point for complex reporting issues across finance
Key responsibilities include:
Technical Leadership & Reporting Solutions
- Lead end-to-end delivery of Workday financial and management reporting solutions (from requirements, build, testing, release, and adoption)
- Develop complex Workday reports, such as the SNG Financial Statutory Accounts model (Advanced, Matrix, Composite, and multi-source reporting packs)
- Implement clear design and governance principles for reporting
- Build and maintain advanced calculated field libraries (e.g., KPI definitions)
- Ensure consistent, performant, and well-documented logic

Reporting Standards & Governance
- Own and shape reporting standards, including:
- Naming conventions
- Report lifecycle management
- Version control
- Decommissioning protocols

ESME & Knowledge Sharing

Act as the reporting SME and escalation point for:
- Security constraints
- Performance issues
- Data quality challenges
- Business object selection

Coach and mentor Finance users and champions

Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and provide guidance on best practice reporting patterns

Contribute to broader analytics strategy, including:
- Alignment with BI platforms (e.g., Power BI)
- Data integration approaches
Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate:
Essential Experience & Skills
- Hands-on experience in developing financial/management reports in Workday:
- Advanced, Matrix, Composite, and Custom reports
- Design and delivery experience (including Composite reporting)
- Deep expertise in:
- Building calculated fields
- Understanding Workday’s data organisation and relationships
- Proven ability to:
- Stakeholder management
- Facilitate requirements workshops
- Translate needs into technically robust solutions
- Support UAT and regression testing
- Ability to produce knowledge transfer and training for internal teams
- Strong analytical skills, including:
- Data interpretation
- Validation and clear explanation of findings
- Good working knowledge of Workday security for reporting:
- Domains
- Role-based access
- Constrained reporting
- Attention to detail, documentation discipline, and multi-priority management
- Understanding of:
- Data privacy
- Role-based access controls (reporting security principles)
- Effective communication and stakeholder management
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial data structure in Workday
- Experience with business intelligence/data visualization tools, e.g.:
- Workday PRISM
- Power BI
- Tableau
- Practical working knowledge of:
- DAX and SQL coding
