About the Role

This full-time, temporary position is based in Derby, United Kingdom and will provide leadership and support to our Financial Accounting team. As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts while taking ownership of key areas such as VAT, Audit, and taxation matters.
You will also oversee the delivery of month-end accounts, forecasts, and budgets for designated parts of the business and play a pivotal role in the development and mentorship of junior team members.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- Managing the daily Financial Accounting operations in Derby, supporting the Finance Director and Financial Controller to deliver accurate and timely financial information across the business.
- Overseeing the reconciliation, submission, and payment processing of the quarterly VAT return, corporation tax calculations, and other HMRC reporting requirements such as the Professor of Statistics and Actuary (PSA) reports.
- Providing ad-hoc advice on VAT and HMRC reporting matters.
- Ensuring that key control accounts on the balance sheet are fully reconciled on a regular basis.
- Taking a key role in the annual year-end audit, including liaising with the Audit Team and coordinating internal workload efficiently.
- Overseeing the production of financial forecasts and budgets for agreed areas of responsibility, adhering to established timetables.

About You
Qualifications & Experience
ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified, or equivalent experience through your career.
Experience within a project-based, professional services or consultancy environment is advantageous.
Technical Skills & Proficiencies
- Strong proficiency in Excel and financial systems
- SAP experience is preferred
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

- Highly organised, with a strong attention to detail to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, discreet, and committed to maintaining confidentiality
- Proactive in keeping up with industry developments and legislative changes
- Flexible and adaptable, able to support changing business needs
- Prior experience in a similar finance role would be beneficial
