About The Role

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will lead the delivery of excellent financial reporting, treasury management, and taxation services. You will drive improvements in our financial control environment and identify and report on risks and opportunities. Reporting to the Council’s Chief Accountant, you will provide essential leadership and technical guidance to our team of qualified and part-qualified accountants and the wider organisation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of accountants, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Each senior accountant will be responsible for managing up to four officers.
  • Statutory Reporting: Lead on statutory reporting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Treasury Management: Oversee treasury management activities, ensuring effective cash flow and investment strategies.
  • Taxation: Manage taxation activities, ensuring compliance and optimizing tax strategies.
  • Financial Control: Drive improvements in the financial control environment, identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Communication: Provide clear and persuasive communication, both verbally and in writing.

About You

  • Qualifications: CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant.
  • Experience: Substantial experience in finance within a large organisation, with a proven track record in delivering statutory financial accounts and working with external auditors.
  • Skills: Strong management skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to continual improvement.
  • Attributes: A desire to excel in technical areas of accounting and a collaborative approach to driving service change.
