About the Role and FCA
We regulate financial services firms in the UK to enforce fairness, efficiency, and consumer protection. By joining the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), you’ll shape the future of UK financial services, combat financial crime, and safeguard consumers.
Supervision, Policy & Competition (SPC)
Our division oversees regulated firms, creates/updates their operating rules, and ensures fair market competition.
Financial Crime Market Interventions (FCMI)
A specialist unit supporting SPC’s strategic mission to minimise financial crime risks in regulated markets. You’ll align with Annex 1 firms (high-risk entities) to enhance Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance, assess financial crime systems, and drive supervisory actions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Compliance & Risk Assessment
- Supervise firms’ adherence to the Money Laundering Regulations (MLR), including:
- Evaluating business models, AML frameworks, and red flags
- Assessing customer due diligence (CDD), ownership structures, and transaction risk
- Analyse cross-sourced data (Open Source, Companies House, internal intelligence) for systemic risks and consumer harm
- Develop evidence-based recommendations for supervisory interventions, thematic portfolios, or AML improvement programmes

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
