Salary: £50,470+ (dependent on experience)

Job Description
As a Senior Flight Systems Engineer, you will design, develop, integrate, and support aircraft systems—spanning mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems, such as:
- Landing gear
- Fuel systems
- Electrical power generation/distribution
- Crew escape systems
- Environmental control & thermal management
- Flight controls
- Propulsion integration
You will contribute across the entire engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture to concept development, through detailed design, validation, qualification, production support, and in-service sustainment. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and customers ensures the delivery of robust, innovative engineering solutions.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and execute engineering tasks across:
- Requirements capture
- System design & development
- Modelling, analysis, testing, integration, qualification, and certification
- Develop, support, and enhance aircraft flight systems in mechanical, electrical, and fluid domains.
- Provide technical support to internal/external stakeholders, troubleshooting engineering issues to maintain systems’ performance and reliability.
- Assist manufacturing and build-line operations, resolving technical challenges swiftly and effectively.
- Produce, review, and release high-quality engineering documentation adhering to organisational standards.
- Utilise engineering analysis and modelling tools to validate designs and optimise system performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, project stakeholders, pricing support, and suppliers to drive engineering solutions.
- Manage and prioritise multiple work packages across projects and platforms, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and schedule targets.
- Contribute to technical reviews, design assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives for programme success.

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Qualification: HNC, HND, degree (or equivalent) in a STEM discipline, such as:
- Aeronautical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Physics
- Mathematics
- or related scientific fields
- Industry Experience:
- Proven track record in aerospace, complex engineering, or technology-focused environments.
- Hands-on experience in:
- Design, development, integration, testing, certification of complex systems.
- Managing multiple engineering work packages across diverse projects/platforms.
- Leadership & Technical Ability:
- Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams and coordinate technical activities.
- Strong analytical skills to research, interpret, and apply system design data to challenges.
- Software & Tools:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and specialist engineering software.
- Experience with system engineering methodologies and industry standards.

About the Team
Based at Filton, the Flight Systems Engineering Team focuses on developing and sustaining critical systems for military aircraft platforms (e.g., Typhoon, Tornado, Hawk, F-35). Working in a collaborative environment, you’ll enable continuous improvement in world-class aerospace technologies while expanding your technical expertise.
