I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About the Point of Sale and Kitchen Management Team
Our team aims to transform the at-counter experience for Customers and Nandocas globally. The goal is to replace the existing legacy POS providers with a truly best-in-class solution.
This is a largely greenfield project to replace the existing POS systems with a bespoke Nando’s built system. This will build on our existing successful digital ordering and kitchen management systems to create a spine of Nando’s ordering technology.
This project is based in the UK but will be used in Nando’s globally (Australia, South Africa, USA, UK). This provides exciting challenges around localisation, configurability and cultural understanding.
The point-of-sale system covers the assisted ordering experience, creating an exciting opportunity to build highly responsive, state-driven interfaces that seamlessly integrate with backend menus, payments, and order systems. It also provides an opportunity to explore frontend resiliency (such as offline modes), as ensuring restaurants can continue to trade is critical.
Responsibilities
- Actively collaborate with other members of the team across all disciplines.
- Routinely pair across disciplines and drive improvements in the team's ways of working.
- Support backlog priority decisions with technical input.
- Develop end-to-end and unit test coverage (including Widget and Integration testing in Flutter), actively increasing the robustness, quality, and number of tests within our codebase alongside feature development.
- Maintain client-side applications once in production and ensure a robust monitoring and crash-reporting strategy is in place.
- Build robust and performant release pipelines for our frontend applications and support peers in troubleshooting build failures.

Skills Required
- Proficiency in Dart and the Flutter framework is essential for building our multi-platform Point of Sale interfaces.
- Strong experience with Flutter state management solutions, responsive UI design, and interacting with REST/gRPC backend services is highly desirable.
- Experience with any of the following is highly desirable: Google Cloud Platform, SQL/SQLite databases, or deploying software to edge devices.
- Knowledge or experience with BFF (Backend For Frontend) architectural concepts.
- Experience with backend development, particularly using Golang or Rust, would be beneficial.
- Experience with development for a Windows or Android target would be ideal.
- Proven experience of agile practices and the ability to break down complex epics/features and provide effort estimates.
- Experience and enthusiasm for embracing AI as part of the development workflow.
- Ability to articulate technical topics and promote technology opportunities with a clear customer benefit.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders outside the team and lead technical integration discussions with third parties.
Everyone is Welcome
At Nando's, everyone is welcome. Inspired by our Southern African heritage, we know and value the richness that diversity brings to Nando’s.
We’re committed to creating an inclusive and respectful culture for all; including our existing and future Nandocas, partners and suppliers, customers and the communities we are a part of. We deliberately work hard to create an environment where every individual is valued, respected and can flourish regardless of who they are, their background or outlook on life.
We welcome applications from a diverse range of individuals and will consider any reasonable adjustments in order to enable candidates to perform as well as possible during the recruitment process.
