Job Title: Senior Full‑Stack Engineer (PHP/Symfony)

Location: Colchester

Salary:

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Full‑Stack Engineer to join a growing engineering team and play a key role in developing and maintaining a diverse, modern technology landscape. This role spans PHP/Symfony‑based backend services, React user interfaces, Python data processing services, and SQL databases - offering a genuinely varied and impactful engineering opportunity.

You’ll work across multiple systems, contribute to architectural discussions, and help shape the future of the platform as the organisation continues to modernise and expand its technology stack. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working across several languages and frameworks, thrives in a collaborative environment, and brings a structured, problem‑solving mindset to complex engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities for the Senior Full‑Stack Engineer:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services using PHP and Symfony
  • Build and optimise user interfaces using React
  • Create and support Python‑based data processing services
  • Work with SQL databases to design, query, and optimise data structures
  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams across product, QA, and infrastructure
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision‑making
  • Ensure code quality through testing, reviews, and adherence to best practices
  • Support ongoing modernisation of systems and services
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across multiple layers of the stack
  • Help maintain a positive, collaborative engineering culture focused on quality and continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong experience with PHP and the Symfony framework
  • Hands‑on experience building modern front‑end applications with React
  • Practical experience developing Python services or data processing pipelines
  • Solid understanding of SQL databases and query optimisation
  • Ability to work across multiple languages and frameworks with confidence
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a structured approach to technical challenges
  • Experience working in collaborative, cross‑functional engineering teams
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts effectively
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement
