About MPC
My Practice Cloud (MPC) is a profitable B2B SaaS platform used by thousands of dental practices and groups across the UK and internationally to understand how their business is performing. We have strong foundations, a large customer base, and more than a decade of experience in the sector.
We’ve historically focused on reporting and analytics. Now we’re shifting towards AI-driven features that help practices understand what’s happening and what to do next. This is a genuine inflection point for the product, and for the engineering behind it.
We’re a small, experienced team where engineers work directly with leadership, own meaningful parts of the platform, and have the freedom to make technical decisions. We believe modern software teams should ship quickly, automate aggressively and use AI as a fundamental part of software development, not an optional extra.
The Role
You’ll be a senior engineer on a small team, owning significant parts of our backend and contributing across the stack. The role leans backend (Java/Spring, SQL, AWS) but you’re comfortable in the frontend (React) when the work calls for it.
This is a hands-on senior IC role reporting to the CTO. You won’t be managing people. You will be trusted to take a problem, work out the right approach, and ship it, using AI tooling to move faster than a team our size normally could. You’ll help shape both our platform and the way our engineering team operates.
We work with sensitive practice and patient-related data, so security, reliability and sound engineering judgement matter in everything we build.
The Problems You’ll Own
- A mature backend that needs to be modernised incrementally, without disrupting thousands of live customers.
- Designing scalable services and APIs that power analytics, benchmarking and AI-driven recommendations.
- Improving release speed through better architecture, automation and testing.
- Building AI-powered features that genuinely improve customer outcomes.
- Identifying technical debt before it becomes a problem and driving continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build and own backend services and secure REST APIs in Java and Spring.
- Contribute across the stack, including React frontend work, when the task requires it.
- Work with SQL and data to make our reporting and analytics fast, accurate and usable.
- Use Claude Code and AI tooling as a core part of how you work, comfortably running multiple agents and progressing several things in parallel.
- Build automated tests and improve our engineering quality and release processes.
- Take features from rough idea to production with minimal direction.
- Propose improvements to architecture, tooling and engineering practices.
Why This Role Is Interesting
- You’ll help move an established, profitable product into its next phase, from reporting into AI-driven decision-making.
- You’ll have real ownership of meaningful parts of the platform, not narrow tickets.
- You’ll work directly with senior leadership, with no layers and fast decisions.
- You’ll work with real data and real customers, not hypothetical problems.
- You’ll help define how a modern, AI-native engineering team actually operates.
What We’re Looking For
This is a senior role. We’re looking for someone who has shipped software that people rely on and who wants real ownership.
- Strong backend expertise: deep experience with Java and the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Web, Security).
- Strong SQL: complex queries, performance optimisation and troubleshooting.
- API design: proven experience designing and building secure REST APIs.
- Full stack capability: comfortable working in React and core frontend technologies when needed.
- Solid fundamentals: Git and branching workflows, testing, Linux, and secure engineering practices.
- AI-native: hands-on, daily experience with Claude Code and AI-assisted development. You’re comfortable orchestrating multiple AI agents where appropriate, allowing you to progress multiple streams of work while maintaining quality and engineering judgement.
- Initiative and ownership: you naturally take ambiguous problems, break them down, make sensible technical decisions and drive them through to production without needing detailed direction.
- Comfortable wearing many hats: some parts of our product involve complex data processing. You don’t need prior expertise there, but you’re happy to learn new domains quickly and turn your hand to whatever the work needs.
- Passion for engineering: You genuinely enjoy building software, keep up with new technologies, and get excited about finding better ways to solve problems.
