About the Role

Forsyth Barnes is partnering with a fast-growing Nottingham-based eCommerce healthcare business as it enters a new and exciting phase of growth.

This innovative business prides itself on its mission: making healthcare feel more human, accessible, and personal, through:

With a strong customer base and solid platform already in place, they are now investing in their engineering capability to improve how their core systems are built, scaled, and extended.


The Opportunity

This is a hands-on senior engineering role focused on building and evolving a live eCommerce platform. You will work closely with the founders, taking ownership of core product areas, including:

  • WordPress/WooCommerce development
  • Customised functionality
  • APIs and integrations with third-party services

This is a product engineering role, with the opportunity to influence the technical direction as the platform grows.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain WordPress/WooCommerce eCommerce platforms
  • Build custom plugins, themes, and PHP-based backend functionality
  • Deliver APIs and third-party integrations
  • Work across the full-stack (PHP + JavaScript), including:
    • Backend development (PHP)
    • Front-end development (React, Vue, or vanilla JS)
  • Improve platform performance, stability, and scalability
  • Contribute to architectural and technical decision-making
  • Mentor and support other developers where necessary
  • Collaborate closely with founders on product direction and delivery

Required Experience

  • Strong commercial experience working with PHP development
  • Proven expertise with WordPress and/or WooCommerce
  • Experience in building custom plugins or themes
  • In-depth knowledge of JavaScript (including React, Vue, or vanilla JS)
  • Familiarity with APIs and third-party integrations
  • Ability to deliver features end-to-end in fast-paced environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Laravel or modern PHP frameworks
  • Familiarity with other eCommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, Docker, or basic cloud technologies (preferably AWS)
  • Informal leadership or mentoring experience
  • Experience working on high-traffic consumer platforms

  • Feature delivery is faster and more predictable
  • Technical debt is actively reduced
  • Systems are more stable, scalable, and performant
  • The engineering function becomes more structured over time
