Department Overview
With a global footprint, the Rights Product & Services Team at Universal Music Group designs, develops, delivers, maintains, and supports technical solutions that facilitate:
- The capture and management of music repertoire contracts
- The assignment and processing of delivered repertoire under those contracts
- Innovative, scalable technologies that improve rights administration workflows
The team collaborates closely with international business stakeholders to enhance rights experiences, adopting best practices and innovative processes in a fast-paced, commercially focused environment.
The Role: Senior Full Stack Engineer
As the Senior Full Stack Engineer, you’ll architect, develop, and maintain both:
- Front-end applications (using React.js)
- Back-end services (using .NET ecosystem)
Joining an agile product team, you’ll work alongside product owners, business analysts, developers, QAs, and DevOps to deliver secure, performant, and reliable solutions while adhering to industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Collaboration & Guidance
- Work closely with the Tech Lead and senior developers, responding to their support and mentorship.
- Attend and actively contribute to agile ceremonies: sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Technical Accountability
- Deeply understand UMG’s complex commercial and rights domain and analyze existing solutions.
- Ensure user stories meet acceptance criteria, minimizing QA failures through Test-Driven Development (TDD).
- Develop high-quality, maintainable code with a strong emphasis on design principles (SOLID, GO4).

Cross-Team & External Engagement
- Board any solutions through iterative feedback with product owners, business stakeholders, and QA teams.
- Learn across architectures, cloud-based systems (microservices, encryption, telemetry tools like Dynatrace).
- Take ownership in diagnosing issues via logging, debugging, and performance monitoring tools.
- Facilitate remote collaboration, minimal self-management, and independent problem-solving on deadlines.

Scrum Process & Cross-Functional Impact
- Autonomous self-starter capable of rapid onboarding and contributing to tight deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with business users to identify, debug, and resolve production issues.
Skills & Experience: Must-Haves
Technical Skills
- Strong C#/.NET expertise in modern systems.
- Proficiency in React.js, pragmatic understanding of TypeScript.
- Testing methodologies: Jest or similar test frameworks.
- Modern JavaScript/TypeScript implementation practices.
- Bachlor’s in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
- *Evidence of media/entertainment industry experience (desirable).
- Message-based architectures (e.g., AWS SNS, SQS, or comparable event-driven design).

Timeout Required Capabilities
- AWS Services (or compatible platforms like Azure) familiarity.
- Relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL recommended).
- CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Tekton, or comparable automation.
- Containerised platform experience (primarily ECS and Kubernetes).
Soft Skills & Mindset
- Cultural fit with an innovative, customer-facing company.
- Strong sense of ownership, diligence, and collaboration.
- Thriving in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban).
- Customer service quality of communication, problem-solving under pressure.
Desirable Bonus Traits
- Travel exposure to industrial/physical applications illustrative of responsibilities.
- Professionals that architect React and Bootstrap components.
- Familiarity with alternative cloud data stores definitions (e.g., DynamoDB, Cosmos DB).
- Experience efficiently refactoring legacy (in-released function, network architectures).
