Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team, delivering robust, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. In this role, you will:

  • Apply your technical expertise and strategic mindset to design, build, and improve technical solutions
  • Lead the development of new features and resolve complex technical issues
  • Address technical debt and optimise engineering practices
  • Play a key role in shaping the team’s workflows to ensure meaningful value and exceptional customer outcomes

Key Responsibilities

  • Feature and Issue Resolution

    • Build clean, maintainable features and resolve end-to-end issues using multiple technical approaches for high-quality customer outcomes
    • Ensure solutions meet business value needs, quality standards, and engineering practices
  • Technical Leadership

    • Contribute to technical debt strategy to maintain secure, resilient, and reliable systems
    • Define and support test approaches prioritising security, usability, accessibility, and customer experience

  • Code Quality & Collaboration

    • Conduct in-depth code reviews, assessing functional & non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, maintainability, security)
    • Promote continuous improvement in team processes, culture, and effectiveness
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing

    • Mentor engineers to foster collaboration, mutual respect, engagement, and skills development
    • Research emerging technologies and share insights to improve solutions while championing fair customer/stakeholder treatment

Who We’re Looking For

Key technical requirements

  • Backend Development Experience

    • Hands-on experience building and supporting large, production-grade systems using:
      • Java (Java 17+/Kotlin) or JVM-based solutions
      • Spring (JVM) or Node.js-based REST microservices
    • Strong proficiency in JavaScript & TypeScript, including work with Angular (web/blending backgrounds acceptable)
  • Design & Architecture Expertise

    • Deep understanding of clean code, clean architecture, and layered backend designs (e.g., three-tier, hexagonal, onion)
    • Ability to align technical decisions with business goals (scalability, quality, maintainability)
    • Expertise in database design (SQL/writer), APIs, and security best practices (web, cloud, distributed systems)
  • Practitioner Skills

    • Test-driven development (TDD) and testing pyramid practitioner
    • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments, including Git/Git Flow and CI/CD pipelines
    • Proven ability to deliver maintainable, high-performance features and resolve complex technical problems
    • Ability to provide actionable feedback through code reviews
  • Soft Skills & Collaboration

    • Excellent written & spoken English with strong communication & facilitation abilities
    • Sound decision-making, problem-solving, and mentoring experience
    • Accountability for outcomes and continuous learning to support team growth
