Location: E Gill & Sons Funeral Directors – Newark Salary: £27,500 per annum Contract: Full-time Working Pattern: Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00

The Opportunity
Based at E Gill & Sons Funeral Directors in Newark, Senior Funeral Service Operatives are essential to our team. Often the first point of contact for grieving families, you must be calm, compassionate, and professional. Your role involves:
- Reassuring families and ensuring their loved ones receive the highest level of care during preparation.
- Handling all aspects of funeral services, including pallbearing, assisting at ceremonies, and ensuring smooth operations.
- Conducting back-of-house duties, such as engaging in mortuary work, coffin fitting, and preparing the deceased.
- Driving company vehicles—a valid licence is required.
- Covering out-of-hours and on-call shifts for additional payments.
This position is a senior lead role, coordinating critical tasks and working autonomously when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-class customer service to bereaved families and colleagues.
- Prep the deceased for funerals with dignity and professionalism.
- Assist in coffin selection, dressing, and mortuary procedures.
- Participate in ceremonies and physically assist with pallbearing.
- Drive funeral vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to on-call reminders as scheduled.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
