General Foreman (Civil & FRC Experienced)


Overview

The General Foreman reports to the Contracts Manager and collaborates extensively with the Quantity Surveyor. They oversee the onsite programme in delivery, workmanship, and safety, ensuring adequate resources—labour, plant, materials, and subcontractor inputs—are available to meet contract requirements while adhering to company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor key stage programmes
  • Set up and maintain site security (e.g., ** Site hutting, hoardings, signage**), ensuring a tidy and professional appearance
  • Assume possession of the site, planning and coordinating trades activities effectively
  • Manage temporary service connections for site operability
  • Interpret drawings and specifications, translating directives to site personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Ensure method statements and Risk Assessments (RAs) are fully completed for high-risk activities
  • Request outstanding project information from the professional team and clarify verbal instructions in writing
  • Collaborate on securing necessary approvals (e.g., horning licences) to prevent delays
  • Assess buildability, proposing cost/programme efficient construction methods
  • Partner with the Environmental Co-ordinator to execute environmental controls aligned with the HSE Plan (Civils)
  • Lead strategic meetings (e.g., site, subcontractor, internal), capturing minutes and action points

Requirements

Experience

  • 10+ years in construction management, preferably with a National/Regional Contractor
  • Proven expertise in Civils and Foundations/Retaining Concreteworks (FRC systems)
  • Strong analytical and planning abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, adaptable to various audiences

Qualifications

  • First Aid at Work Certificate
  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety management training
  • Temporary Works & Excavation Safety qualification
  • Performing live-energy work (validated by Site & Safety Manager)
  • Working at Heights & Scaffolding, Lifting & Cranage training
  • Adherence to site HSEQS training requirements
