Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ)
Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world-class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.
The Opportunity – Senior Geologist
Provide a wide range of geological support and technical advice to the business (including the Asset, Project and Wells teams), deliver subsurface licence commitments and work programmes, and identify and mature business growth opportunities. The role will support the MNZ carbon storage asset.
Location: Aberdeen
Duration: 1 year contract
Contract Type: PAYE
Day Rate: TBC - For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation.

And Now For The Technical Bit…
In role, you will be required to:
- Structural framework model build.
- Integrating reservoir modelling – model build and iterative updates based on dynamic feedback from simulation reservoir engineer.
- Input to geomechanical modelling.
- Input to Containment Risk Assessment updates.
- Input to monitoring plan.
- Input to corrective measures plan.
- Post closure planning including decommissioning, post closure monitoring and handover plan.
- Manage the interface with supply chain partners for specialist technical inputs and studies (BGS Lithostratigraphy, microbial, fault seal, etc.).
- Support the subsurface work programme(s) and ensure that the company meets its NSTA carbon storage license commitments and deadlines, whilst remaining aligned with the priorities and constraints of the business.
- Support work to successfully secure a carbon storage permit aligned with the requirements of the MNZ project portfolio.
- Maintain technical alignment with wells, above ground and commercial aspects of the proposed development.
- Promote Spirit Energy with stakeholders, including at conferences and other events, to build awareness and confidence in technical competence of the business.
- Input to carbon storage development plan.
- Any other associated duties as reasonably required.

About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
- Deep subsurface technical subject matter expertise in geology pertaining to carbon storage development, a recognized and trusted industry expert with good understanding of the UK carbon storage regulatory regime including licensing, work programme fulfillment and permit application and award.
- Strong all-round Geological and Geophysical knowledge and interpretation skills.
- Experienced in the use of Petrel software platform and in particular the structural/reservoir modelling and geological workflows.
- Additional familiarity with GIS software platforms ArcPRO, QGIS, etc.
- Experience devising and managing specialist geotechnical study programmes.
- Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, organized self-starter, highly motivated with well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Educated to at least MSc level or equivalent in Geology, Geophysics or similar.
- Substantial experience in Oil and Gas or CCS, preferably with a UKCS operator.
