Location: Birmingham
Salary: Base salary: £54,878–£64,562pa
- Plus a 20% flexible benefits fund (fully pensionable)

About the Role
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at HS2 Ltd, you’ll support the Head of Ground Engineering and Lead Geotechnical Engineer to provide geotechnical expertise across the HS2 programme. Key responsibilities include:

Technical Leadership:
- Contribute to the development of geotechnical standards and specifications
- Undertake technical assurance of design work
- Support construction phases and complete geotechnical initiatives aligning with the programme

Advisory & Strategic Support:
- Advise Main Works Civil Contracts Integrated Project Teams (MWCC IPTs) and other contracted areas (e.g., depots, stations, rail systems)
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on geotechnical engineering matters
Key Responsibilities
- Embed Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in all work, complying with organisational policies
- Maintain and update technical standards, guidance notes, and specifications with the Lead Geotechnical Engineer
- Provide technical responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Technical Queries (TQs), and support impact assessments of standards changes
- Ensure geotechnical work aligns with Civil Engineering standards during delivery
- Collaborate with HS2 agree and Rail Systems-Track, assessing residual ground movements and accepting earthwork handover from MWCC
- Develop maintenance & management processes for geotechnical assets with HS2 O&M teams
- Manage ground risk, including advice on Compensation Events related to ground conditions
- Promote best practice and innovative engineering techniques, driving consistency and efficiency

About You
Skills & Competencies
- Strong science/engineering principles, data analysis, reporting, root-cause problem-solving
- Communicating technical concepts to diverse stakeholders (technical & non-technical)
- Knowledge of contract management (NEC3), commercial, risk, and interface principles
- Leadership & specialist support for geotechnical engineering teams, with critical thinking and ** بذпарشatility**
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in civil engineering, geology, or equivalent (e.g., Chartered Civil Engineer/Membership of a relevant institution)
- Expertise in:
- Major civil projects (design/construction of foundations, earthworks, or geotechnical assets)
- Ground investigations
- Contract risk and interface management specifics

Required Experience
- Geotechnical design experience (complex projects)
- Managing competing priorities (cost/schedule considerations)
- Handling designer/contractor relationships in large-scale projects
