Job Overview

Mott MacDonald’s ENC Digital Delivery team is seeking an enthusiastic, resourceful, and innovative GIS Consultant to support the delivery of GIS tools and services in a fast-growing, client-focused commercial environment. This role requires a dynamic, proactive individual eager to work closely with the Land Advisory team and contribute to complex infrastructure projects in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and deliver GIS services on complex projects
  • Ensure technical excellence and adherence to standards
  • Design, develop, and implement digital solutions including:
    • Automation
    • Geospatial data analytics
    • Data science
    • Data management and integration
    • Insight extraction and decision-making improvements
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams to gather and evaluate requirements for integrated digital solutions and innovative outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiencies and propose innovative solutions
  • Compile and utilise existing and new data sources to inform project teams
  • Lead or support business development activities, providing technical and financial input for bids and identifying internal/external business opportunities
  • Manage mobile data collection packages for field workers
  • Collaborate with the GIS team on standards and tools for daily operations
  • Undertake mentoring responsibilities (for junior colleagues)
  • Participate in knowledge sharing within the global GIS community (700+ specialists and users)

Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualification: Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in GIS, computer science, environmental management, geography, or a related discipline
  • Experience:
    • Highly competent GIS Consultant with strong UK experience and a client-oriented approach
    • Extensive experience in leading geospatial project delivery, including budgeting, task planning, and resource prioritisation
    • Mastery of ESRI ArcGIS products, with expertise in:
      • ArcGIS Online/Portal for ArcGIS
      • ArcGIS Pro
    • Excellent proactive communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills (including device, reporting)
    • Deep knowledge of spatial analysis workflows and spatial data management
    • Innovation-focused mindset — keen to adopt emerging technologies (e.g., AI, automation) and apply them to business problems
    • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., SQL, Python, ESRI Arcade, R, JavaScript) and/or FME
    • Ability to develop web GIS (using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS alongside ArcGIS API)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in database administration (MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL)
  • Currently pursuing or with a professional body qualification, e.g., *Chartered Geographer (RGS)
  • Confidence working with design and engineering data
  • Experience in mentoring junior colleagues
  • Familiarity with Office 365 scripting/automation tools, including:
    • MS Power Automate
    • Excel VBA
    • Power Query
    • Power BI
    • Access VBA
    • SharePoint
