If you’re looking to take an exciting new direction with your HSBC career, an internal move can open the door to many opportunities, allowing you to take on a new challenge, and develop your skills. Bring your knowledge of our brand to a new role and grow yourself further. We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of ‘Senior Governance Manager’. Join HSBC UK Risk & Compliance’s Performance & Delivery (P&D) team and help shape how we govern, report and deliver against our regulatory commitments. This role sits within the Governance pillar of P&D and supports the HSBC UK Chief Risk & Compliance Officer (CRCO) and leadership team to meet their governance and reporting obligations. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholder, particularly the Head of P&D, HSBC UK, to deliver key regulatory and OpCo accountabilities, including Board and Risk Committee support, risk reporting and disclosure activity. While governance is the role’s core, it’s part of a wider ambition to build a more connected, collaborative Risk & Compliance function. You’ll be encouraged to work across Governance, Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance priorities, bringing together viewpoints and driving joined-up outcomes rather than siloed delivery. A central focus will be producing clear, well-structured and decision-ready papers, including committee submissions and escalations to Group, translating complex issues into concise narratives, robust recommendations and effective governance outcomes. If you’re versatile, comfortable operating at pace, and confident engaging senior stakeholders, this is an opportunity to make a visible impact at the heart of HSBC UK Risk & Compliance. A move across the business allows you to continue to access tailored professional development opportunities, and our fantastic benefits packages. In this role you will: Apply strong judgement, technical expertise and critical thinking to prepare and quality-check committee papers, regulatory responses and senior communications, synthesising risk and compliance insights with strategic priorities and external macro/regulatory trends. Produce clear, concise and insightful updates, papers and briefings for key governance forums across Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance (including Risk Steward updates for the HSBC UK CRCO Report and Senior Manager Report). Support HSBC UK Entity Risk Appetite Statement and Risk Map activity and reporting for Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance. Coordinate delivery of the annual regulatory-required Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Financial Crime reports. Coordinate inputs and draft the MiFID report for Regulatory Compliance. Compile, track and report progress against the Annual Compliance Plan and agreed Regulatory Compliance activities. Track delivery of key objectives supporting the CRCO scorecard and provide Risk & Compliance input to relevant Managing Director scorecards where required. Draft and manage approvals for Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance content for the HSBC UK Annual Report and Accounts and associated disclosures. Review and improve governance reporting processes and MI, driving efficiency, consistency and accuracy. Take ownership of ad hoc priorities in support of the CRCO and the HSBC UK Risk & Compliance Leadership team. To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements: Essential Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to summarise complex and technical topics into clear, high-quality outputs. Strong understanding of HSBC governance frameworks, with experience producing committee-ready governance papers. A sharp eye for detail and a consistent focus on accuracy and quality. Proven ability to build trusted relationships and credibility with stakeholders at all levels, including senior Risk & Compliance leaders, and to support effective interaction between P&D and the wider function. A flexible, adaptable approach - comfortable working in a fast-changing environment, juggling multiple priorities and re-planning at pace. Confidence working to tight deadlines for Board and OpCo stakeholders and turning feedback quickly and effectively. A well-organised, methodical approach with strong follow-through. Desirable Knowledge of the Risk Management Framework and sufficient breadth across risk types to engage effectively with Risk Stewards. Understanding of Risk & Compliance risks and issues. Familiarity with risk reporting tools and MI (e.g. Risk Maps, Risk Appetite Profile, HELIOS). Experience in Risk or Compliance, or relevant roles within 1LoD or 2LoD. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
