The Role

This is a maternity cover position for 9 months

Great role for an experienced Senior Graphic and Print Designer to join our team, as part of the women’s clothing team. If you enjoy working in a fast paced and exciting environment, juggling multiple plates and having a good laugh as you do – then the New Look Design team is for you! This role offers a wide breadth of autonomy, reporting directly into the Print and Colour manager and working with a talented team. You will love trend, be on the pulse of what’s next, pushing trend newness and not being afraid to embrace what’s next be comfortable alongside creating seasonal updates for core newness. You will put the customer requirements at the centre of your designs and deliver an offer that is commercial, yet exciting. You will support the Company Design strategy by designing and developing print graphic artworks that are in line with current trend, customer profiles and brand direction. You will have vast experience in designing graphics for women’s and it would be useful if you knew how to create all over print. You will have experience working on a casual jersey department and be comfortable highlighting block updates alongside constantly calling out new trend directions. You will manage a direct report and be responsible for coaching and looking after their development.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Excellent design, graphic and illustration skills. This is a role for a fashion graphic and print designer for clothing.
  • Strong eye for fonts and typography.
  • Strong eye for colour, colour combinations and trend.
  • Excellent spec skills- understanding of pantone system and factory ready files.
  • In-depth trend knowledge, being able to identify emerging trends and influence the business at critical points. Looking at opportunities to react quickly, with strong understanding of the supply base and how to get quick reads on product.
  • Clearly identifying key print and graphic trends from a long lead and speed to market point of view, and presenting these in a clear and exciting way to wider teams.
  • Driving new trends commercially through product ranges with the New Look brand handwriting and customer front of mind
  • Strategically manages the critical path from design concept through to final buying samples reacting to market changes and challenges.
  • Working in synergy with Buying to build a strong fashion yet commercial range, sharing ideas and information with other product areas to ensure brand / product consistency
  • Good influencing skills and self believe, to ensure that newness is delivered into the range, at the correct grading in collaboration with Buying
  • Developing the right product at the right time, in line with the departmental design strategy to meet customer requirements
  • Communicating effectively with all internal and external teams. Confident to feedback to direct report and suppliers on their designs, in a constructive way.
  • An excellent understanding of the New Look Customer
  • Ongoing familiarity of the competition’s product range
  • Challenging current ways of working and practices across departments and functions, coming up with new initiatives to benefit the whole business and implementing these.
  • Managing and developing the Team, displaying strong leadership skills to enable achievement of New Look’s strategy
  • Giving 1:1 coaching on the job, transferring skills and knowledge to others
  • Conducting regular catch ups and performance reviews, proactive in managing performance, ensuring constructive feedback, recognition and praise is given

Who you are:

  • Excel in using Adobe - Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design
  • Management of workload according to the critical path
  • Excellent interpersonal / communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Pro-active in approach and seeks solutions
  • Fully represent and demonstrate our New Look Values
  • Previous experience as a Senior Graphic & Print Designer (or similar) within a major retailer / department within New Look / established supplier
  • Fashion Qualification / Other degree desirable
