About the Role

This newly created fixed-term role (maternity cover) sits within the Group Finance team, reporting to the Head of Tax. As the Senior Group VAT Manager, you will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of VAT compliance for the Group. The Group has subsidiaries across the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, and you will primarily focus on EMEA and the UK. There will also be exposure to VAT consulting projects across the Group.

Responsibilities

  • VAT Compliance:
    • Manage and lead the preparation of VAT compliance in EMEA, liaising with tax advisors.
    • Manage VAT submissions and payments, ensuring timely delivery and compliance.

  • Collaboration & Projects:

    • Support the Head of Tax on ad hoc tax and customs projects, issues, and opportunities, both locally in the UK and internationally.
    • Provide technical input and support for VAT documentation, Intrastat filings, EC sales listings, and customs declarations.
  • Correspondence & Audits:

    • Manage VAT correspondence and notices from tax authorities, including assisting with Indirect tax audits.
    • Provide detailed data and responses to tax authority queries.
  • Strategic Contributions:

    • Support the interpretation and development of analytical reviews of new indirect tax policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Help advance the long-term VAT technology strategy, including Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiatives.
  • Business Engagement:

    • Work closely with the global business teams to raise awareness of VAT issues, providing guidance on invoicing, and reviewing VAT accounting entries and ledgers.

About You

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a multinational company, preferably in an indirect tax function or financial advisory, especially related to VAT compliance.
  • Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) or equivalent is preferred.
  • A professional qualification in accounting or tax.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, SUMIF, array functions, querying).
  • A deep understanding of UK VAT and other indirect taxes, including domestic, EU, and international obligations.
  • Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of:
    • Clearly conveying ideas to senior management.
    • Collaboratively challenging commercial teams with tax and VAT-related information.
  • Comfortable interacting with a cross-section of stakeholders, both in and outside Finance.
  • Ability to think logically and methodically, balancing both strategic and tactical considerations.
  • Highly agile, proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (required given the international role).
