Job Title: Senior Hardware R&D Engineer


We are delighted to collaborate with our client who are a local manufacturer and leading provider in their industry, in the search for a seasoned Senior Hardware R&D Engineer. This pivotal role centres on fostering innovation and steering R&D projects to fruition. If you enjoy solving high-speed, high-reliability problems and want your work to end up in labs, observatories, field deployments and next-generation platforms, you'll feel right at home here.

The Role:

  • Coordinate and manage R&D projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to set standards and specifications.
  • Engage in product development, from conceptualisation to implementation, fostering innovative solutions.
  • Ensure products are developed to comply with industry regulations and standards.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, aligning R&D projects with company strategy and client needs.
  • Develop, validate, and implement testing protocols.

The Person:

  • Holds a solid track record in a Senior Hardware R&D position within manufacturing or a similar industry.
  • STEM background, applicants from Mechanics/Electronics/Physics are warmly welcomed.
  • Exemplary project management skills, able to lead projects from initiation to completion.
  • Strong analytical skills, with an eye for detail and problem-solving.
  • Innovative thinker with the ability to translate ideas into pragmatic solutions.

What we're looking for (must-have):

  • Strong track record delivering complex PCB designs into real products
  • Excellent schematic capture + PCB design experience
  • Confidence with lab bring-up and debug: oscilloscopes, logic analysers and troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of high-speed layout fundamentals (return paths, impedance control, decoupling, clocks)
  • Experience designing robust power systems for sensitive electronics (noise, sequencing, protections)
  • Comfortable working across teams deriving product requirements from commercial specifications

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Background in imaging/camera systems (VIS, SWIR/low-light, sensor bring-up, image pipeline awareness)
  • Broad experience in FPGA, embedded software and basic test GUI development
  • Knowledge of industry standards and compliance (EMC/ESD, CE/UKCA, environmental testing where applicable)
  • Experience with production test development, boundary scan/JTAG strategies, or automated test rigs
  • Exposure to harsh-environment design (vibration/thermal cycling, sealing considerations, rugged connectors
