Health & Safety Manager (Construction Project) – Senior Professional

About the Role

A Senior Principal responsible for providing health & safety advice to a client across a large construction project, from initiation to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the business unit directors in achieving business objectives through:

  • Monitoring and collaborating with the principal contractor to ensure project compliance;
  • Attending regular meetings with the principal contractor and their teams;
  • Providing practical support to the principal contractor and contractors on-site;
  • Developing, nurturing, and maintaining strong relationships with our client;
  • Ensuring high-quality service delivery aligned with the client’s requirements;
  • Managing the client’s health and safety obligations to guarantee premium service standards;

Advising and compliance role:

  • Assisting the client in fulfilling CDM regulations and other construction-related health, safety, and legal standards;
  • Coordinating health and safety elements in design work coordination;
  • Cooperating with all project stakeholders (designers, contractors, etc.);
  • Facilitating effective communication between clients, designers, and contractors;
  • Liaising with the principal contractor on ongoing design adjustments and site progress reports;
  • Producing and presenting regular updates, including:
    • Flash reports on critical safety incidents;
    • Weekly and monthly reports detailing health and safety management on-site;
  • Mentoring and coaching team members to foster professional growth;
  • Preparing competitive service bids for potential business opportunities;
  • Promptly advising directors of any emerging risks—especially those affecting Gleeds’ professional indemnity (PI) insurance coverage;

Who We’re Looking For: The Ideal Candidate

This permanent, on-site role requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional capable of:

  • Working independently, yet collaborating effectively with contractors, designers, and the client;
  • Balancing high-level contractor oversight with client advocacy while maintaining a positive, collaborative approach.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required

  • Sound construction health and safety management experience, post-Tech IOSH qualification; (Key certification required)
  • Proven record of delivering health and safety services on active construction sites; (Essential industry fieldwork experience)
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices; (Technical expertise)
  • Strong understanding of construction-specific health and safety legislation (CDM, HSE,чной) and practical application; (Compliance mastery)
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; (Critical stakeholder interactions)
  • Methodical mindset, evidenced by systematic problem-solving and precision in task execution; (Flawless execution)
  • Well-honed negotiating, financial, and numeracy management skills; (Commercial and analytical mindset)
  • Ability to prepare high-quality service bids; (Sales and proposal writing)
  • Proficient ICT skills, with advanced proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; (Tech-savviness)
  • Team player with leadership skills to co-ordinate and motivate teams effectively; (People management)

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Construction qualification;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in site safety (verifiable calibration);
