Senior Health Physicist
Senior Health Physicist – Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) at Dounreay
Dounreay, a leading nuclear decommissioning site, is seeking a Senior Health Physicist to deliver expert radiation protection support. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with IRR 2017 (Ionising Radiations Regulations) while contributing to the safe decommissioning and clean-up of a complex nuclear environment.

About the Role
A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Health Physicist to provide expert radiation protection advice and support at Dounreay.
It is anticipated that a significant portion of your work time will be based on the NRS Dounreay Site.
The role involves:
- Ensuring compliance with IRR17 while supporting the decommissioning programme
- Providing timely, practical, and legally compliant advice and guidance to enable safe and effective operations
- Maintaining robust Health Physics standards
- Supporting audit, compliance, training, and emergency preparedness
Key Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance of codes of practice, standards, and guidance
- Develop and undertake local audits and inspections to ensure compliance with Dounreay management systems and IRRs
- Provide radiation protection advice to staff and projects, ensuring compliance with IRR17 and radiological protection standards
- Interface with stakeholders, regulators, and auditors on radiation protection issues
- Represent Dounreay at internal and external forums
- Participate in the site audit programme as a specialist advisor
- Assist in the development of site emergency procedures and contingency arrangements
- Provide support during emergency response activities, including being a member of the out-of-hours on-call roster
- Offer expert advice on implementing radiation protection management processes and standards
- Contribute to the development and delivery of specialised radiological protection training
- Mentor, supervise, and support the development of Health Physics staff
- Undertake competence assessments for health physics personnel
- Support the implementation of emerging radiological protection topics
- Act as the appointed Radiation Protection Adviser

About You
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A degree in Science/Engineering (or equivalent, such as an NVQ in Radiation Protection or relevant professional qualifications)
- Relevant Radiation Protection experience
- A valid Certificate of Competence to act as a Radiation Protection Adviser
- Professional registration as either an:
- Incorporated Radiation Protection Professional (IRadP)
- Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (CRadP)
- Proven health physics experience
- Successful completion of a post-specific capability assessment
