STRABAG UK is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our Build division, supporting the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK.
This is a pivotal role for a driven professional who is passionate about fostering a positive safety culture and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and wellbeing are embedded across all stages of construction.
Working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and senior leadership, the successful candidate will provide expert guidance, promote best practice, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company standards. This role offers the opportunity to influence and shape safety performance on complex, fast-paced projects, while contributing to STRABAG UK’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability in construction.
The role will involve travel to project offices and sites across the UK and will be based from Solihull. We are seeking a dynamic and driven individual who is passionate about making a meaningful impact on Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
Requirements
- Understand the Company Health & Safety Policies and Procedures and statutory requirements as they affect the Project operations and ensure that the requirements are identified and implemented.
- Provide operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, ill health, environmental incidents and the practical implementation of the company’s health & safety policies.
- Assist the Project Management or Project H&S Manager in preparing and developing the Project Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan & coordinate reviews as required.
- Undertake site health & safety inspections as required. Participate as requested in health & safety audit and inspections.
- Advise on the assessment and appointment of sub-contractors.
- Assist where necessary with tenders and presentations to external bodies.
- When requested, advise on the preparation of health & safety risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure that appropriate Project health & safety performance is monitored, and reports are provided as required.
- Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents where appropriate. Monitor and coordinate the close out of the above.
- Assist and promote a positive health & safety culture.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of health & safety training courses and ensure that staff with specific health & safety responsibilities have received the appropriate training.
- Organise and deliver relevant health & safety training where required including Inductions.
- Set standards and lead by example in the management of health & safety.
- Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relation to health & safety management and responsibilities including appropriate qualification and professional membership.
- Obtain competency cards in line with Company Competence & Training Policy e.g. CSCS / CCNSG.
- Assistance with innovation and best practice implementation, write up and communication.
- Collecting and maintaining incident reports and information.
- Accommodate occasional shift change requests to ensure required health & safety coverage.
- Database management and interrogation – observation cards etc.

Qualifications

Required:
- Health and Safety Degree/Diploma Qualification or experience equivalent with supporting HSW Qualification applicable to the UK e.g. NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- Strong experience in at least one of the relevant fields - industrial, commercial or residential-midrise of Construction HSW.
- Membership of IOSH – CMIOSH or working toward.
- Accident Investigation training.
- Demonstration of knowledge and practical application of HSW in planning and construction activities.
- Good knowledge of applicable UK regulatory and industry standards.
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Good communication, data analytics, and presentation skills.
Desirable
- Qualification and knowledge of fire risk management in construction.
- Experience/Knowledge and interest in HSW technology, digitalisation, and AI implementation and development.
