Job Title: Senior Health & Safety Advisor
Location: Aspect House, Blantyre
Salary from: £55,000
Grade: EN6

The Senior Health and Safety Advisor within SPT Projects provide Health and Safety professional advice to direct and guide multiple Project Teams (currently 240 projects). This includes delivering Health and Safety services to over 350 employees and agency professionals within SPT and to 800 -1000 contractors, based at our project construction sites, as part of our supply chain for the £3bn RIIO-T2 price control period. This ensures the delivery of multiple multi-million pound energy construction projects and that client interface activities remain a primary focus along with proactive monitoring, reviewing, and reporting on performance.
You will support the project team throughout the project lifecycle with the effective coordination of Contractor safe works methodologies and client interface activities. This will involve interaction with construction, engineering, project management, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure effective works planning and coordination; regarding Health and safety performance to ensure everyone affected by our activities remain safe. This will necessitate advising, coaching, mentoring, influencing, and monitoring best practice projects safety management aligned and fully compliant with CDM 2015 Regulations ensuring that statutory obligations required of the Duty Holders are applied throughout the project lifecycle.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide professional Health & Safety direction and advice to Project Teams including Senior Management.
- Be responsible for the pro-active delivery of the delegated aspects of the annual departmental Health & Safety Operating Plan and all-employee Health and Safety initiatives within your project portfolio.
- Actively influence teams and individuals to encourage and support the implementation of measures to effectively demonstrate legal compliance.
- Contribute to the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Health and Safety Management System within your areas of responsibility covering all works and activities performed by the company.
- Perform and meet Health and Safety monitoring targets, (audits and inspections)
- Provide professional advice and support to incident investigations from minor events to Panel of Inquiry incidents.
- Contribute and deliver Health and Safety initiatives projects and agreed deliverables.
- Proactively influence and engage with internal and external stakeholders with a view to improving Health and Safety performance.
- Develop opportunities for best-practice exchanges across the business including regular facilitation of workshops and meetings.
- Be responsible for the promotion, development and review of projects which support the delivery of the health and safety policy and strategy.
- Supporting the governance and assurance of H&S within your areas of responsibility
- Liaison with external and internal technical specialists as appropriate.
- Act as subject matter expert for certain H&S topics or hazards
- Pro-actively bench-mark internally and externally to improve SPT H&S performance from e.g., latest process and procedures to latest technologies.
- To establish, monitor and control a safe working environment within the area where the post holder is responsible.

What You’ll Bring
- Occupational Health and Safety Degree or Health and Safety Qualification ranging from European Qualifications Framework levels, 8, 7, 6 or 5
- Trained Structured Incident Investigation Technique
- Registered with IOSH for ‘Initial Professional Development’ (IPD) and the IOSH ‘Continuing Professional Development’ (CPD) scheme
- Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within the, engineering or construction sectors.
- Proven experience of delivering and performing Health and Safety audits and inspections for a large business area and presenting reports.
- Proven experience of acting as Health and Safety subject matter expert from creation of procedures to coaching the associated best practice.
- Full UK Drivers Licence
